MultiColored-Prompt v1.0 for 4DOS/4OS2 By Aaron Tiensivu [01/15/94]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 4DOS DOS prompt included in this package has existed for a good year
and a half. I was sick of the "monocrome" C:\> prompt and wanted something
a little more informative, yet, non-intrusive. This prompt provides
a top-line display, of free conventional memory, XMS, EMS, disk space
of current drive, time & date. Quite a feat to fit on one line. :)
The prompt is not dependent on 80-columns either, so it will operate correctly
under 132-columns or any other non-standard screen size, by use of 4DOS's
"columns" function. [ATI VGA Wonder's undocumented 100x30 screen mode looks
VERY nice]
I highly recommend using the NNANSI ansi driver, since the driver supports
more of the ANSI subset than the default ANSI.SYS driver. MCPrompt takes
advantage of this fact. Using the standard ANSI.SYS driver, the prompt will be
in all high intensity colors. Using NNANSI, the prompt will be more
eye-appealing, since it's a combination of high intensity and low intensity
colors. I could have adapted the prompt to use more standard ANSI codes, but
doing so would have doubled it's size. Since I use NNANSI exclusively and never
planned on releasing this to the public, it wasn't much of a concern to me.
About a half year ago, I wanted to adapt my prompt to use under OS/2, so
also provided in this package is my OS/2 prompt for 4OS2. Since more
information is available under OS/2, the date is not included on the top-line.
This prompt provides a top-line display of free memory, disk space of current
drive, file system type of the current drive [FAT, HPFS, CDFS, etc], Session
mode [AVIO - windowed, or FS - Full screen], Session ID [SID], Process ID [PID],
and the time. Since OS/2's ANSI driver doesn't provide support for the
[ESC][2m ANSI code, the prompt is in all high-intensity, except the actual
C:\» portion.
Both prompts are provided in one batch file, for ease of use. Using 4DOS/4OS2
variables, it determines which prompt to use automagically. :)
Both prompts have been tested under 4DOS v5.0c/4OS/2 v2.0, and
4DOS v4.02/4OS2 v1.1.
If prompt does not seem to work, increase your environment space.
All I ask is that if you modify this prompt, either distribute it under
a different name with credit given to the original, or do not distribute it
at all.
This prompt is distributed under the MailWare theme. If you like the prompt,
write me a little note saying that you've enjoyed it. You are then a registered
user of this prompt. [snicker]
