Thank you for using KWIKLABL.
You should have eight files.
KWIKLABL.EXE - The main program Version 4.0/A
KWKLBLGR.SDR } - Small PrintMaster graphic files that must both
KWKLBLGR.SHP } be kept in the same directory with KWIKLABL.EXE
KWIKLABL.DOC - The manual or documentation
FILE_ID.DIZ - Info file for use by BBS or Shareware distributors.
REGISTER.FRM - A convenient order form for KWIKLABL. To print just
type at the prompt: COPY REGISTER.FRM PRN
README.1ST - This file
README.TOO - Discusses possible printer problems
(A small file -PRINTER.DAT- will be made when you select printer type)
I hope that you will print the manual and read it carefully, but if you
are like most of us, you will want to jump in and get started with the
program. This is fine, because KWIKLABL is a "user-friendly" program.
HOWEVER! There are a few things that you must set or at least check on
your printer. They are:
(1) Make sure your internal printer switches are set for Epson/standard
mode and not IBM mode.
(2) If you have a front panel pitch selector on your printer, it must
be set to Program mode.
(3) It's a good idea to put your printer in LQ mode instead of DRAFT
mode. KWIKLABL will command the LQ mode when needed.
(4) KWIKLABL makes maximum use of the emphasized or bold command to
give dark, clean printing. On some of the older 9-pin printers
the emphasize command cancels the compressed printing command
thus preventing the address from being properly located under
the borders in the return address labels. If you have this
problem, please note that you can cancel bold printing in the
Printer Setup.
(5) If you have a 24-pin printer and are having problems printing
24-pin borders, see README.TOO for additional information.
NOTES ABOUT THE CUSTOM BORDER EDITOR -- The editor is very simple to
operate but there are a few things you should keep in mind. The
design you make will be repeated seven times to make a border. If
you'll notice some of my designs like stars or pots, there are seven
of them. With this in mind, you should either have space on the
sides for individual designs or, if you are making a continuous
design, make sure the lines will match from one to the next. Other
than that, it's simple. Just move with the directional keys and
mark or un-mark with the SPACEBAR. For faster marking or un-marking
hold down the Ctrl key while moving with the left arrow key or the
right arrow key.
NOTES ABOUT THE MAILING LIST FEATURE --- This operation is different
from the regular labels. In the regular labels, multiple copies
are made of the same name and address. In mailing list, the entire
list is printed out on labels, with a different name and address
on each label. If you choose, you can mark certain names on the
list and just make labels of those marked names. This version
consists of just one list with a limit of ten entries, enough to
demonstrate the capabilities of the mailing list. The registered
version allows five different mailing lists with unlimited entries.
The registered version also allows the Postal barcode to be placed
above the name and address if you so choose.
NOTE TO 9-PIN OWNERS -- I did not have a 9-pin printer available to me
for testing the graphics. By calculation the graphics should
print properly. If you do experience any problems with 9-pin
printing I would appreciate it if you would let me know and if
possible, send samples of any problems..Thank you.
Now go have a ball with KWIKLABL and if you like it, please register or
at least drop me a line with your comments or suggestions.
