  51. The following files are distributed with Cap2Text.
  52.  
  53. CAP2TEXT.COM provides an easy way to copy displayed screens
  54.              directly to a document on disk, ready for later
  55.              retrieval by a word processor.  It is a memory
  56.              resident utility for the IBM PC family of computers,
  57.              allowing 'snap-shots' to be taken during other
  58.              programs' operation.  Screens are copied to
  59.              ASCII or WordPerfect format file.
  60.   TESTER.EXE provides a work-out test pattern for Cap2Text.  It
  61.              displays the extended character set, lines and boxes.
  62.              This display can demonstrate and test Cap2Text's
  63.              abilities. Type "TESTER" at the DOS prompt, and
  64.              CAPTURE it.
  65.   CONFIG.EXE configures the operation of Cap2Text.  A menu of the
  66.              adjustable features is shown, with the current
  67.              values of each displayed beside it.  A help screen
  68.              will appear for each item being changed.
  69.   MANUAL.TXT this manual in ASCII text format, displayed by
  70.              typing "TYPE MANUAL.TXT | MORE"
  71.              printed by typing "PRINT MANUAL.TXT".
  72.  INSTALL.EXE installs files and optionally modifies AUTOEXEC.BAT
  73.              to load Cap2Text into memory at boot-up.

  80. To INSTALL the files, place the distribution diskette into drive
  81. A (or B) and type "A(or B):INSTALL" [enter].  Follow the on-screen
  82. prompts.  Upon completion, CONFIG will be run to show and set the
  83. operating features.

  87. You may manually install Cap2Text.
  88. 1)   Make a directory on the destination drive.      MD \CAP2TEXT
  89.  
  90. 2)   Copy the files from the distribution diskette to the
  91.      destination drive and directory.      COPY A:*.* C:\CAP2TEXT
  92.      INSTALL.EXE may be deleted.      DEL C:\CAP2TEXT\INSTALL.EXE
  93.  
  94. 3)   Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to add the new directory to
  95.      the PATH statement.  If you wish to always load Cap2Text
  96.      at start-up, add the command line.                C:CAP2TEXT

  98. 4)   Change to the new directory.                  CD C:\CAP2TEXT

  100. 5)   Run Config to set the operating features.             CONFIG

  108. Load Cap2Text into memory by typing "Cap2Text" at the DOS prompt,
  109. or by including the line "Cap2Text.COM" in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  110. This may have been done during INSTALL.  As with all memory-resident
  111. programs, do not load during an application's temporary "exit or
  112. shell to DOS" process.  Only 3k of system memory will be occupied.
  113.  
  114. Activate Cap2Text by holding down the [Ctrl] key while you press
  115. and release the [PRINT SCREEN] key.  If you have changed this 
  116. 'hot-key' using CONFIG, use your new combination.
  117. The screen will be read, interpreted to ASCII (or WordPerfect)
  118. format, and written to a file named 'IMAGE.DOC' in the current
  119. disk's root directory, e.g. C:\IMAGE.DOC.  If you are logged on to
  120. a diskette, Cap2Text will attempt to write 'IMAGE.DOC' there.
  121.  
  122. A high beep indicates creation of 'IMAGE.DOC' on the disk.
  123. A low beep indicates that IMAGE.DOC already exists and the
  124.      current screen is being appended to that same file.
  125. A medium beep indicates that screen capture is complete.
  126.  
  127. If WordPerfect format is chosen, documents will be created with 12 
  128. pitch to allow an 80 column screen to fit within a normal 8 1/2 inch 
  129. page width.  Margins are set to 1 inch and 1/2 inch.  This can be
  130. altered later within the word processor.
  131. ASCII format files will have no margins or modifiers.  Using
  132. WordPerfect output format, the full screen is written as is with
  133. line and box drawing characters preserved.  Characters displayed on
  134. the screen with high intensity will receive the bold attribute. 
  135. Coloured areas of the screen can be assigned any one of the
  136. WordPerfect attributes.

  138. Unload Cap2Text by retyping its name at the DOS prompt (not during
  139. an application's temporary "exit or shell to DOS" process). 
  140. Memory-resident programs must be unloaded in the reverse order to
  141. which they were loaded.

  148. Type "CONFIG" at the DOS prompt if you wish to alter any of
  149. Cap2Text's features.  If CONFIG successfully finds Cap2Text and all
  150. of its configuration 'markers', a menu will appear with the current
  151. settings displayed to the right of each item.  Failure to start
  152. indicates that the DOS PATH should be changed or you must run
  153. CONFIG after changing to the directory where the files were
  154. installed.
  155. An arrow and high-light bar can be moved using the up and down
  156. arrow keys.  Pick the item to be changed by pressing [enter].  Read
  157. the help pop-up text and respond to the prompt displayed there. 
  158. The new setting will be displayed beside the menu when complete. 
  159. Changes will come into effect after loading (or removing and re-
  160. loading) Cap2Text into memory.

  188. In the example above, the attribute to be applied to coloured
  189. areas of the screen is chosen from a pick list by using the up and
  190. down arrows, and pressing [ENTER].

  192. The 'Save and/or Exit' option allows you to Save the current
  193. settings, Quit without saving, or press any other key to resume at
  194. the menu.  Config directly modifies Cap2Text.COM with the new
  195. settings - no need for command line arguments or a configuration
  196. file.

  203. The PC must be in text mode (modes 2, 3 or 7) for Cap2Text to load
  204. or activate.  WordPerfect provides a screen capture utility called
  205. "GRAB" for graphics modes.
  206.  
  207. Some memory resident programs change interrupt vectors and execute
  208. only their own alternate interrupt handlers.  Cap2Text will execute
  209. any previously loaded routine(s) first, then itself.  Cap2Text should
  210. be loaded after network or other memory-resident programs.
  211.  
  212. Hot-keys are combinations of keys having altered meanings.  Many
  213. BIOSes do not support all possible key combinations.  Further
  214. still, applications may re-define key combinations at will and
  215. reset them upon exit.  Cap2Text and CONFIG directly examine the
  216. Shift, Control and Alt keys and the key's scan code to provide
  217. combinations not conventionally available.  The Ctrl-PrintScreen
  218. combination (a DOS function) may cause problems if pressed while
  219. Cap2Text is not in memory.  An alternate may be desirable.
  220. Use CONFIG to change this feature.

  222. The output format may be changed to ASCII.  Cap2Text will
  223. translate the special characters, used for line and box drawing,
  224. to typewriter characters which can be sent directly to a printer. 
  225. If you choose Extended ASCII output format, special characters
  226. will remain as seen on the screen.  However, many printers will
  227. not print these characters properly, and some applications cannot
  228. directly import them as seen.

  236. 3 kbytes of memory is consumed by Cap2Text.  Monitors must be in 
  237. text mode during program load and screen Cap2Text.  MDA, HERCULES,
  238. CGA, EGA and VGA screens may be used.

  247. trial purposes in hope that if found satisfactory, the production
