PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
====================
TriBulletinBoardNewsFlash! is a program for use with TriBBS Bulletin Board
Systems. TriBNF allows the sysop to enter a 1 to 24 line piece of news and
or information, which could be considered to be a "News Flash!", and needs
to be made available to the users of the BBS quickly. Use as a logon screen
to help insure the users view the information you want them to. Different
from the TriBBS newsletter, in part, because it can be viewed at each logon
rather than only when updated. Program command line option allows for the
easy creation of the text data file. Simply follow the instructions on the
screen. The text in the data file is displayed in both ANSI and MONO
bulletins. Use to notify the users of a newly installed door program, let
them know the BBS will be offline for two days, or anything else that has a
sense of importance.
FEATURES:
=========
--- Easy to set up.
--- BETA tested on a TriBBS BBS.
--- Support BBS available.
--- Creates ANSI and MONO bulletins.
INSTALLATION:
=============
1. Place three files, (TRIBNF.CFG, TRIBNF.DAT, and TRIBNF.EXE), in your
your main TriBBS directory. (Example: C:\TRIBBS)
2. Using a text editor, edit the TRIBNF.CFG file to include the required
information as shown in the example below.
The File Cabinet BBS
Bob Harmon
C:\TRIBBS\DISPLAY\LOGON8.BBS
C:\TRIBBS\DISPLAY\LOGON8.ANS
Line #1 is the name of your BBS.
Line #2 is the Sysop's name.
Line #3 is the complete path to your MONO screen.
Line #4 is the complete path to your ANSI screen.
2. Using a text editor, edit the TRIBNF.DAT file to include the required
information as shown in the example below. Be sure to READ the notes
after the TRIBNF.DAT example.
A new RIP graphics door program has been installed on the BBS. It is
RIP Lemonade. The graphics are great! To view the RIP graphics you
will need to use a communications program, such as RIPterm, which does
support RIP graphics. Give RIP Lemonade a try, and let me know what
you think of it. Also, let me know if you have any problems.
and so on, and so on......up to 24 lines.
OR EVEN A BETTER WAY!
After placing the three files, (TRIBNF.CFG, TRIBNF.DAT, and
TRIBNF.EXE), which came with TriBNF, in your main TriBBS
directory, you can create a "new" TRIBNF.DAT file by entering
the following command, while at the main TriBBS directory:
TRIBNF NEWS
You will be prompted to enter required information, after which
your TRIBNF.DAT file will be created.
Notes about the TRIBNF.DAT file:
- Each line of the TRIBNF.DAT file should be NO longer
than 72 characters and/or spaces in length.
- You can have up to 24 lines of text and blank lines in
your TRIBNF.DAT file, but if lines of text are separated
by a blank line, you will need to use the <Space Bar>
and "space over" a couple of spaces. Doing so will place
the blank line between the text filled lines in the ANSI
and MONO bulletins. If you do not want the blank lines
to appear between lines of text, then press the <Enter>
key instead of the <Space Bar>
- To use the TRIBNF NEWS command to create a "new"
TRIBNF.DAT file, there must be an "old" one in the
directory.
4. TriBNF itself, is executed with the following command.....
TRIBNF
TriBNF can be executed by typing TRIBNF when you want to
update the bulletins. This might be the preferred method.
Just execute TriBNF after each time you update the TRIBNF.DAT
file.
TriBNF can also be executed from the TriBBS BETWEEN.BAT file, which
will result in TriBNF generating updated bulletins between each
call. Of course, you will have to update the TRIBNF.DAT file
before the bulletins are "actually" updated. Therefore, using a
text editor, edit the BETWEEN.BAT file located in your main TriBBS
directory, and add the required information as shown in the example
below.
TRIBNF
Note: For additional information on the use of the BETWEEN.BAT
file, please refer to your TriBBS manual.
TriBNF can also be executed by using the "event" feature of TriBBS.
This would be handy if you did not want the bulletins generated by
TriBNF to be updated between each call to your BBS.
Note: For additional information on the use of the "event" features
please refer to your TriBBS manual.
MAINTENANCE:
============
The only known maintenance is for you to update the TRIBNF.DAT file
when you want to update the "News Flash!". Following the update of the
TRIBNF.DAT file, you will need to execute TriBNF, so the bulletins will be
updated. The updating of the TRIBNF.DAT file, and the execution TriBNF
of TriBNF afterwards, should take only a few minutes.
