  2.                         SEARCHNET Rules & Policy
  3.                            (Subject To Change)

  5. GENERAL
  6.  
  7.         SEARCHNET is intended to provide a means for all persons
  8. to communicate with one another regarding any of the topics covered
  9. by the conference names.  SEARCHNET is not a Christian network or a
  10. Debate network.  SEARCHNET, as a network, is ruled under a BENEVOLENT
  11. dictatorship at this time.  This means that the Zone coordinator has
  12. the last say in all policy matters.  As the network grows, we will
  13. convert to a more democratic rule, possibly electing committees.

  15. CONFERENCES
  16.  
  17.         Only one conference is REQUIRED to be carried by all nodes,
  18. and that is SEARCH_ADMIN.  This should be a SysOp only echo, and is
  19. for all administrative activities of SEARCHNET.

  32.         Each conference should have a Moderator, who will post the
  33. rules once per month.  Sysops are required to assist the moderator
  34. if asked to suspend access to an echo by one of the Sysop's users.
  35.  
  36.         Suggestions for new conferences should be made in the   
  37. SEARCH_ADMIN echo, where all Sysops who are interested may voice
  38. their opinions on the proposed conference, and reach a general
  39. unscientific consensus.  Please allow two weeks from the time of 
  40. the proposal, before expecting a final decision to be made.  The
  41. final decision shall be made by the Zone Coordinator.

  43.         All participants (users) in SearchNet Conferences must use
  44. their real names; no Handles allowed at this time.  This policy is
  45. open for discussion by SysOps in SEARCH_ADMIN.

  47. NODES
  48.  
  49.         All SEARCHNET member nodes must display the Searchnet name
  50. and their Searchnet address within the Origin line.  For Example:
  51. Origin: XBN BBS <SearchNet> (114:508/0) blah, blah, blah
  52. Nodes must poll their Hub/Host for mail at least twice a week,
  53. unless another arrangement is agreed upon between the node and
  54. Hub/Host pertaining to who calls.

  56. ADDENDUM: 4-15-93
  57.  
  58. All nodes must use their
  59. 114:net/node address on ALL mail having to do with SearchNet.  This includes
  60. Areafix requests.  Your fido number is ignored.  When you poll me or your host
  61. for searchnet mail, use your SearchNet address. We do not want fido addresses
  62. in the seen-by lines of searchnet messages. In your echomail management
  63. program, be sure to set your SearchNet address and the SearchNet address
  64. of the person from whom you receive SearchNet Mail.  All instances of
  65. addresses having to do with SearchNet, should have the 114:net/node number.

  67. FRONTDOOR
  68.  
  69. If you use frontdoor, then when you are about to enter a message (netmail), use
  70. ALT-W to change YOUR address to your searchnet AKA of 114:net/node, then enter
  71. the netmail message.

  73. Also in frontdoor's setup, under mailer/misc, you should have:

  75. Match remote's zone = NO!
  76. present all AKA's   = YES!
  77.  
  78. Everyone using frodo should set these two configs like this. that way you send/
  79. get all your mail/msgs for both fido and searchnet AKA's, you save money by not
  80. having to call twice!

  83. HUBS / HOSTS
  84.  
  85.         All SEARCHNET Hubs and Hosts must carry ALL the SEARCHNET
  86. conferences, or make them available to their nodes as requested.
  87. The only exception is any PRIVATE or CLOSED conferences, which are
  88. controlled by the Zone Coordinator.  No CLOSED or PRIVATE conferences
  89. should ever be distributed without permission from the Zone Coordinator.
  90. Hubs and Hosts may make some conferences, pass-through, if they do not
  91. want to carry them on their own Bulletin Boards.  If the Hub/Host and
  92. all of it's nodes do not want a conference, that conference does not
  93. have to be carried (until called for by a new or existing node).
  94. All Hubs / Hosts must poll their Regional or the Zone coordinator
  95. at LEAST three times a week for mail.  Hubs / Hosts must distribute
  96. the weekly nodelist each week to their nodes, or otherwise make them
  97. available to be picked up in the next mail run.  Also the entire nodelist
  98. must be available for a new node to freq or download.  Hubs / Hosts
  99. must forward all nodelist updates to the Zone Coordinator.

  102. APPLICATIONS

  104. At this time, 3/24/93, all applications should be forwarded to the Zone
  105. Coordinator at 114:1/0.
