- - - - - - - - - CD-ROM GUIDE : HELP.DOC FILE - - - - - - - - - - - -
HOW TO INSTALL: This sofware consists of many files in 2 self-extracting
archives - CDINSTL1.EXE and CDINSTL2.EXE. Create a directory - we suggest
the name "CDROMG" - on your hard drive, copy these 2 files into it, extract
the files by typing the command names listed above, and you are ready to run!
(Once the files are extracted, CDINSTL1.EXE and CDINSTL2.EXE may be deleted.)
For detailed step-by-step help with installation, see the steps listed below,
which assume you are installing the software from 2 floppies on drive A: and
are installing CD-ROM GUIDE files to your C: hard disk. (If you are using
drive B, substitute B: for A: everywhere):
C: (make your hard disk the default drive)
MKDIR \CDROMG (create a CDROM guide directory)
CD \CDROMG (go to the new directory)
-- insert the disk containing CDINSTL1.EXE into drive A: --
COPY A:*.* C: (copy all files to your hard drive)
-- insert the disk containing CDINSTL2.EXE into drive A: --
COPY A:*.* C: (copy all files to the hard drive)
CDINSTL1 (extract the files from CDINSTL1)
CDINSTL2 (extract the files from CDINSTL2)
DEL CDINSTL1
DEL CDINSTL2 (delete the compressed archive files)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO RUN: type CD\CDROMG (set the default directory)
type CDROMG (CDROMG.EXE is the program name to run)
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: VGA, Color Monitor, 640K RAM, and a hard disk
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
USING CD-R0M GUIDE:
CD-ROM GUIDE is menu driven and easy to use. Check the prompt window at the
top of the screen to see which keys you can use at each point in the
program.
The <esc> key will always return you to a previous menu, and eventually, allow
you to exit the program.
Use the <enter> key and the cursor keys to make menu selections.
Use <PgUp> and <PgDn> keys to see the next page of a list of titles, or
to change from one title description screen to the next title in the same
subcategory.
Use the <F10> key to print out the data on a title description screen. Be
sure your printer is turned on and connected to the LPT1 printer port.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS:
1. I pressed <F10> to print out information about a CD-ROM title, but then
discovered that my printer was not turned on. After turning on the printer,
the screen is still frozen.....
Reboot your computer by pressing <Ctl>,<Alt>, and <Del> at the same time.
Restart the CDROMG program.
Be sure the printer is on, connected and ready before pressing <F10>.
2. I get an error message saying "Unable to open Index File" or "Unable to
open Data File", and the program quits.....
CDROMG.EXE requires access to a number of files in your current default
directory. Check to see that all the files listed below are in the same
directory as CDROMG.EXE, if not, try the installation again:
CDROMG.EXE SHOW.EXE SHOW-PCX.EXE TEXTMODE.EXE
MM.PCX K.DBQ Q0075801.GIF
Q?????01.PCX ...(6 files)
M???.I .........(51 files)
Be sure to set your default directory before starting CDROMG. See the
above instructions for details.
3. When I try to run CDROMG, I get a message "This program requires VGA,
some other video card was detected".....
Your system must have a VGA card and color monitor to operate properly and
see the color screen shot pictures.
