AMGamma3
────────
This is the second 'public' release of Online Archive Master. It is
still a gamma, but many (if not all) known bugs have been fixed, as far
as I can tell. I hope I didn't forget any... :)
PLEASE scan the docs if you are upgrading, as there have been some
changes!
────────
AMGamma2
────────
This was released to only a few people, as the changes were not yet
completed.

Eric Staufer 1:374/6568 (He Screamed at me... I forgot <g>)
Bert Kennedy 1:3648/2
...and if I've forgotten you, scream at me about it!
There are also alot of other people using the beta version, simply because
they bugged me and I gave in, and gave them a copy. SO, if you see that
someone is using the Beta, and they're not on this list, don't shoot them.

───[March 30, 1994]───────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Remember me? Here I am, finally, with gamma release #3! Enjoy!
See WHATS.NEW for a list of what's new! :)
───[December 21, 1993]────────────────────────────────────────────────────
I hoped to release the final version of Online Archive Master by
Christmas 1993, but that just didn't happen. Rather than keep people
waiting and waiting, I'm releasing the program to the public, as a gamma
version. There may still be minor bugs and problems, but I am confident
that the general operation of the program is stable.
New since Beta7:
- SQZ format archives are now supported.
- The command line was cleaned up a bit, making it more flexible for
multi-node systems to setup and run the program. PLEASE REVIEW THE
DOCUMENTATION to ensure that your settings match the new specs! :)
- Fixed a bug that caused AM to crash when reading a text file that was
NOT within an archive. Oops.
───[November 7, 1993]─────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Well, its been another long wait. Again, I'm sorry for the long delay,
but that's life in the freeware business.
Online Archive Master v6.0 is ready for release IF the beta sites have no
problems. Alot has been done to this release, and I think you'll love it.
I do NOT plan on adding any more features to this version of AM. What you
see is what you'll get in the official release. If I continue to add
things, it will never get released. Please continue to send me your ideas
though, as v6.1 (or whatever) will be waiting... <g>
***************************************************************************
*IMPORTANT* REMOVE THE LINE FROM YOUR CONFIGURATION FILE (AM-CONF.DAT)
THAT TELLS WHERE THE TEMPORARY "WORKING" DIRECTORY IS! AM now creates
the temporary directories on-the-fly, so please remove this entry from
the configuration file. You may also remove the "working" directory that
you created for AM to use.
***************************************************************************
AM now supports unlimited number of files within the archive. It used to
stop at 400 files, and ignore the rest.
AM now has a status bar. Note that the status bar does NOT function in
local mode. I apologize if the Status bar isn't perfect all the time, as
text from the program display may overwrite the status bar from time to
time. Sorry about that, but I cannot do anything with it. The fossil
routines I use refuse to stay in a 23 line window, and spill over the
last two lines on the screen. Bummer, but ohwell, its nothing serious,
and doesn't happen often.
The AM text file reader was slightly enhanced.
AM now cleans up after itself alot better than before. First off, all
temporary directories are created on the fly, and are cleaned up when
the program exists. In the event of a program crash due to a runtime
error, it will still clean up the temporary directories before bombing
out! In the event that some directories somehow do get left behind,
AM will find and remove them the next time the program is run. This
should really help the situation. Also, the DOS "DEL" command is no
longer used to remove the files. The program does this internally now,
which is a little safer.
...and the BIG news...
AM now supports NESTED archives! The most annoying thing about having
an archive viewer online was viewing a file, and finding out that all the
info I needed was in a nested archive where I couldn't get at it! Well,
AM will now support nested archives up to 10 levels deep, in theory,
though if you have low memory problems you might not get to 10 levels.
───[September 5, 1993]────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Just some documentation revisions... Thanks Dan for your suggestion to
use RAFILE KILL EXTRACT.ZIP [area] to remove the EXTRACT.ZIP entry from
the database when a user logs off. (Add this to your batch file if you
want to.)
───[August 29, 1993]──────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SHARE support is working. End of story. I have run the program as a
door, and as the external archive viewer, with SHARE loaded, and I can
no longer make the runtime errors occur. I have used AM 6 in the New
Files scan, in a keyword search, and in a Filename search, and every
time it worked just great. In the event that you still have problems,
please let me know... I'll probably kill myself though. :(
I thank David Hickey and Geoffrey Booher for their assistance with the
SHARE problems (via the RA_DEV echo). David, your suggestion fixed the
problem immediately. Dang I was an idiot.
The program will now add an entry to the filebase for EXTRACT.ZIP, in
the file area that you specified, IF no entry for EXTRACT.ZIP is found.
I added a keyboard timeout (approx 3 mins till a one minute warning, then
one more minute until it will kick them back to the BBS)
