This file contains help text to be displayed in the help window. It
must be formatted to fit in the window. Guidelines are:
Length of lines = (HELP_DBOX_RIGHT - 2) - (HELP_DOBX_LEFT + 2) + 1 (52)
# of lines = (HELP_DBOX_BOTTOM - HELP_DBOX_TOP) - 4 (11)
(it looks better if we use <= 10 lines)
Each entry is formatted as follows:
:00## (Help-category number)
!Some title (Context-help title) | Sometimes these are
|Some title (Help-index title) | the same
Help text blah
blah blah
blah...
(NOTE: All of above would normally start in leftmost column. It is
moved over two columns here because this is just an example and
we don't want the parsing routines to pick it up.)
The context-help title is the title to be displayed in the help window when
the user presses a help button or presses the F1 key. The help-index title
is the title to be displayed in the list of help topics that the user gets
when he chooses "Help index" from the Help Menu.
A ! or | on the line by itself signifies that there is no context-help
or help-index title, respectively for this message (i.e., this message
will be used for one or the other, but not both).

!"LAYOUT - Mailing Address" Box
|
In this box you can type the mailing address, use
the "Fonts" button to specify fonts for it, and use
the "Colors" button to specify colors for it.
You can type up to 6 lines of text. Put the city,
state, and ZIP Code on the last line that you use -
unless the ZIP Code won't fit on the line with the
city and state; in that case, put the ZIP Code by
itself on the line below. Put the DELIVERY ADDRESS
(street address, PO Box #, etc.) on the line above
the city and state.
:0042
!"Delivery-Address Breakdown" Box
|
For a Courtesy Reply Mailpiece, Reply Mail Designer
must know the street number so it can create the
Delivery Point Bar Code. At the beginning of the de-
livery address, you typed 2 sets of digits separated
by a space. It is not clear whether both sets of
digits are part of the street number or whether
the second set of digits is part of the street name.
Please separate the street number from the rest of
the delivery address by typing the requested
information in the Delivery-Address Breakdown Box.
:0051
!"LAYOUT - Business Reply Block" Box
|
This box lets you enter permit information, choose
colors and fonts, and specify an outline option -
Box: Prints a rectangle around the text
Lines: Prints horizontal lines above/below text
Long Lines: Same as "Lines" except that the lines
connect with 2 of the horiz bars. (Horiz
bars are automatically set to "Thin"
when you choose "Long Lines.")
:0061
!"LAYOUT - FIM Bar Code" Box
|
In this box you can 1) specify where to print the
FIM bar code 2) use the "Colors" button to specify
its color 3) use the "Zoom" button to see a blowup.
. "At top of mailpiece" puts the top of the FIM
exactly at the top of the mailpiece
. "Above top of mailpiece" makes the FIM extend
1/16" past the top (good for envelopes)
. "Below top of mailpiece" moves the FIM down 1/12"
Reply Mail Designer automatically chooses the FIIM
needed for your mailpiece (FIM A, FIM B, or FIM C).
:0062
!"FIM Bar Code - Zoom" Box
|
This box shows a blowup of the Facing Identification
Mark (FIM) bar code that will appear on your mail-
piece and tells you what type of FIM bar code it is.
There are 3 types of FIM bar codes: FIM A, FIM B,
and FIM C. The type of mailpiece being created de-
termines which type of FIM bar code is used: FIM A
for Courtesy Reply, FIM B for Business Reply without
POSTNET, and FIM C for Business Reply with POSTNET.
Reply Mail Designer knows which FIM to use for each
type of mailpiece:
:0071
!"LAYOUT - Horizontal Bars" Box
|
In this box you can specify the thickness of the
horizontal bars on your mailpiece, and you can
use the "Colors" button to specify a color for them.
NOTE: The thickness of the horizontal bars is auto-
matically set to "Thin" if you select "Long Lines"
for "Type of outline" in the LAYOUT - Business Reply
Block Box.
:0081
!"File - Open" Box
|
This box lets you get (open) a mailpiece that is
in a file. After you open it, you can make changes
to it, print it, or export it to an EPS file.

change the current directory and drive.
:0091
!"LAYOUT - Perimeter Options" Box
|
In this box, you can specify what to print outside
the edges of the mailpiece on a printout.
To create artwork for offset printing, etc., choose
"Yes" for registration marks, for ID text, and for
trim marks or corner marks. If your design runs off
the edge of the mailpiece, choose "Yes" for bleed
area. And for printing envelopes or exporting an
EPS file, you'll probably want to choose "No" for
all the options so that only the mailpiece itself
will be printed.
:0101
!"LAYOUT - POSTNET Bar Code" Box
|
In this box you can 1) use the "Colors" button to
choose a color for the POSTNET bar code, 2) use the
"Zoom" button to see a blowup of it. For a Courtesy
Reply Mailpiece, you can specify its position.
For a Business Reply Mailpiece, you can choose not
to print a POSTNET bar code. However, generally you
should say "Yes" for "Create POSTNET bar code?",
because the Postal Service charges more money to
process a mailpiece without a POSTNET bar code and
usually there is no good reason to omit it.
:0102
!"POSTNET Bar Code - Zoom" Box
|
This box shows a blowup of the POSTNET bar code that
will be printed on your mailpiece and displays the
ZIP Code that the bar code represents. Reply Mail
Designer gets the ZIP Code from the LAYOUT - Mailing
Address Box.
If you're creating a Courtesy Reply Mailpiece and
you entered a 9-digit ZIP Code for the mailing
address, this box will show 2 extra digits. The
delivery address dictates what these 2 digits will
be; they are used to create a POSTNET bar code that
pinpoints the delivery location.
:0111
!"Print - Print now" Box
|
This box lets you print the current mailpiece on
your laser printer or imagesetter.
Type the number of copies that you want. Then click

Opts" so that only the mailpiece itself will be
printed.) Save the mailpiece.
Activate the Print Menu and choose "Paper/Position."
Use the "Paper" and "Position" Boxes to arrange the
mailpieces on the page. (You can save your settings
in a "Paper/Position file" for future use.) When
ready, choose "Print now" from the Print Menu.

|Bar Codes: Basics
Reply Mail Designer creates the required FIM and
POSTNET bar codes for your mailpiece. The settings
in the LAYOUT - Size & Type Box, the LAYOUT -
FIM Bar Code Box, and the LAYOUT - POSTNET Bar Code
Box determine which bar codes are created and where
they are positioned on the mailpiece.
The "Zoom" buttons in the LAYOUT - FIM Bar Code
Box and the LAYOUT - POSTNET Bar Code Box let you
see on-screen blowups of the bar codes that will be
printed.
:0524

|Bar Codes: FIM
The FIM (Facing Identification Mark) bar code is the
series of 5 or 6 tall vertical lines near the upper-
right corner of a Business Reply Mailpiece or
Courtesy Reply Mailpiece.
Reply Mail Designer prints one of 3 types of FIM bar
codes on your mailpiece: FIM A, FIM B, or FIM C. The
type of FIM bar code used on your mailpiece depends
on: 1) whether you're creating a Business Reply
Mailpiece or a Courtesy Reply Mailpiece, and 2)
whether your mailpiece has a POSTNET bar code.
:0525

|Bar Codes: POSTNET
The POSTNET bar code is a series of short vertical
lines that is printed on most Business Reply Mail-
pieces and Courtesy Reply Mailpieces. There are 32,
52, or 62 bars in a POSTNET bar code.
The POSTNET bar code on a Business Reply Mailpiece
represents the ZIP Code. The POSTNET bar code on a
Courtesy Reply Mailpiece represents the ZIP Code and
also pinpoints the physical delivery location (it is
sometimes called a Delivery Point Bar Code).

The Demo Program doesn't let you create EPS files,
but it comes with a sample EPS file (RMDSAMPL.EPS).
You can experiment with RMDSAMPL.EPS by importing it
into an illustration program or page-layout program.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you print the EPS file from a
program other than Reply Mail Designer, you might
notice that it's larger or smaller than it should be.
DON'T WORRY ABOUT THIS! The real Reply Mail Designer
program comes with instructions that explain how to
make sure your envelope or card is the right size.
