  11. This shareware version is being released for distribution in March 
  12. 1994. This shareware version is fully functional and is meant to be 
  13. tested by those interested in using STATMAN for their leagues.  If your 
  14. league plans on using the STATMAN STATS Service, try using this
  15. sample first to get an idea how easy STATMAN handles weekly
  16. stats entries.  
  17.  
  18. We are including the (official) FIRST four weeks of stats for 1993, 
  19. in order for you to see exactly how STATMAN loads statistics 
  20. automatically.  These stats were included for demonstration purposes
  21. only.  Once the real season starts you can either delete everything and
  22. do a re-install, or go to sub-menu #1, "Reset" database, and delete
  23. everything in do it from there.  Once you import the first REAL week's
  24. statistics from 1994, your rosters should be current as of that date,
  25. minus those players that may not be in the database already, and have
  26. not yet played.  Once they do play, they, too, will be added 
  27. automatically.

  30. BEFORE YOU ADD ANY STATISTICS, you must Configure STATMAN and 
  31. give the season START and END dates.  For the start date you MUST
  32. type 04/10/93, (if you use the stats from Opening Day) and the season
  33. END DATE will be 10/10/93.  I believe this is the correct ending
  34. date; however, I do not have a season's schedule, but if it is 
  35. incorrect, type in the Sunday following the last game that the 
  36. Major Leagues play, this is the season's end date.  For example,
  37. if they finished on Monday, October 5th and that Sunday is
  38. October 11, you would type 10/11/94.  If you load the stats 
  39. BEFORE setting the START and END dates, your statistics may 
  40. not load properly.
  41.  
  42. During the actual 1994 season, we post on Data Exchange, the the first 
  43. 4 weeks of statistics FREE to try.  It will cost you nothing but the
  44. phone call to use STATMAN Stats FREE.  We figure by then you will either love 
  45. us or want something else.  We believe the former, and feel you will want to 
  46. register with us to continue this great service for the entire year. 
  47.  
  48. To get started with your actual League, you MUST set-up your league to reflect 
  49. the 1994 start and end date, etc.  You are now ready to download the REAL 
  50. stats from Data Exchange and start the season.  You load the REAL stats the 
  51. sameway as you did the sample ones.  Before loading any STATS, make sure you 
  52. delete the OLD Fantasy League database you were using to sample the program.  
  53. Make sure you have created your Fantasy League, Teams, and conducted your 
  54. draft before actually adding the STATS.  If players are drafted that are not 
  55. part of the current database, don't fret as STATMAN will add them to the 
  56. database and update their statistics when they finally acquire some.  Just 
  57. make sure your draft is backed up on paper, computer, or something so everyone 
  58. knows who drafted whom. It usually takes about 3 to 4 weeks of the season to 
  59. get everyone entered into the database.  We recommend that your draft be 
  60. conducted manually (on paper) and kept until all the players have received 
  61. stats.  At that time, you should go into STATMAN and do your draft inside the 
  62. program to make everything up-to-date.

  64. After you have tried the program and are satisfied that this is
  65. the easiest way to keep track of your league and want to continue,
  66. please call DATA EXCHANGE at (813)882-9613, V32bis.  Data Exchange is Home 
  67. Plate for STATMAN.  Each week we update the previous week's stats and put them 
  68. online for downloading. The STATS are from Monday thru Sunday and normally 
  69. available for downloading by midnight on Monday.

  97. PART 1. INTRODUCTION
  98. ====================
  99. Welcome  to  STATMAN  BASEBALL.  STATMAN is designed to  assist  you  in 
  100. managing  your  Fantasy/Rotisserie  League on  your  personal  computer.  
  101. STATMAN  will maintain your entire league from the draft to the  end  of 
  102. the season.
  103.   
  104. Following are some of the features of STATMAN:

  146. System Requirements
  147. -------------------
  148. STATMAN Baseball requires the following minimum configuration:
  149.  
  150.      An IBM Personal Computer or "compatible" running the MS-DOS or  PC-
  151.      DOS  operating system version 2.1 or later, or OS/2 version 1.0  or 
  152.      later.
  153.  
  154.      Monochrome or Color Display, Hercules, CGA, EGA or VGA.
  155.  
  156.      One floppy disk drive and a hard disk drive with approximately  one
  157.      megabyte free space.
  158.  
  159.      At least 312K of free memory (after DOS and any TSRs are loaded).
  160.  
  161.  
  162. PART 2. Installing STATMAN
  163. =========================            
  164. The  Shareware  version of STATMAN Baseball is distributed in a  single, 
  165. compressed-format file.  The name of the file is STATxx.ZIP (x is the
  166. version number).  To  load  STATMAN  on  your  hard drive,  follow these 
  167. directions:
  168.  
  169. 1)   Create a temporary directory on your hard disk.  If you  don't 
  170. know how to do this, see your DOS manual.
  171.  
  172. 2)   Copy the file  STATxx.ZIP  into that directory. Using  PKUNZIP.EXE 
  173. (from PKWARE, available on almost all BBS's as part of PKZxxx.EXE) unzip
  174. the STATxx.ZIP file.
  175.  
  176. 3)  PKUNZIP will uncompress STATxx.ZIP so that you will now have many files
  177. in  your  STATMAN  directory  including  STATMAN.EXE, README.1ST, etc.
  178. You should  now  remove  STATxx.ZIP  from  your  STATMAN
  179. directory.
  180.  
  181. 4)   At the DOS prompt type INSTALL C: and press the "Enter" key.
  182. After STATMAN creates the directories and files, move the *.UPD files
  183. into the UPDATE directory.
  184.  
  185. 5)  Enter STATMAN at the DOS prompt to start STATMAN.
  186.  
  187. The databases have been pre-loaded with the National League and American 
  188. League  players.  If your league runs from either the American or National
  189. Leagues only, no problem, STATMAN is configurable to run from one or the
  190. other or BOTH leagues, depending on your league rules.  Its ready to run 
  191. as-is, but now you may want to  configure STATMAN for your particular
  192. needs. 
  193.  
  194. The  software makes extensive use of pop-up windows for data  entry  and 
  195. menus. The menus list the options that are available. You may select any 
  196. of the options by highlighting it; press the up and down arrow keys  and 
  197. then press the enter key to execute the option. You may also execute  an 
  198. option  by  pressing the number (or letter) next to the  option  on  the
  199. menu.

  201. The  Escape  key can be used to abort any operation in STATMAN.  If  you
  202. make  a  mistake  while entering data and just want to  start  all  over 
  203. again,  press the escape key. You can also press the Escape key to  back 
  204. out of a menu (return to the next higher menu).
  205.  
  206. If you need assistance, you can press the F1 key at any time. This  will 
  207. pop-up  a  help  window that will  provide  additional  information  and 
  208. assistance.

  211. STATMAN  is  the  result of many hours of  programming  and  testing  to 
  212. ensure the software is not crippled in any way.  It is the same as  the 
  213. commercial  version except for the opening screen.  We encourage you  to 
  214. try  it  for  30 days to see if you like it.  There  is  even  sample 
  215. statistics  so that you can see how  easy it is to enter statistics.  
  216. If you do like STATMAN and use it beyond the 30  day limit, you are 
  217. obligated to register your copy of  the  program.  The   cost   of 
  218. registration is $75 per league - not per  team.   Upon registering,  
  219. you will  receive  the  latest version  of   the   program along  with 
  220. with documentation.  You  may  send   payment   to

  234. FANTASY SPORTS SOFTWARE's Statistics Service
  235. --------------------------------------------
  236. We  are proud to announce StatService, our on-line  statistics  service. 
  237. This  service is available only to registered STATMAN users.  It  allows
  238. you to automatically enter Major League baseball statistics on a  weekly 
  239. basis.
  240.  
  241. Each  week you will receive a complete set of statistics for  all  major 
  242. league players. The statistics will be in STATMAN format. STATMAN  reads 
  243. the  information and updates the player's database.  The statistics  are 
  244. used to compute and calculate standings, print reports for the Owners of 
  245. the  league  and update Major League rosters.  The whole  process,  from 
  246. start  to finish, takes a few minutes per week!  This  low-cost  service 
  247. can save hundreds of hours of research and data input each season.
  248.  
  249. There are two ways to receive the weekly statistics: 
  250.  
  251.    1. You can contact our on-line Bulletin Board Service, DATA EXCHANGE, 
  252.    and  download  the  weekly stats  (available  each  Tuesday).   The 
  253.    statistics are for all games through the prior Sunday. To contact our 
  254.    BBS,  you  must have a modem  (300/1200/2400/9600/19200  baud).   The 
  255.    telephone number for DATA EXCHANGE is (813) 882-9613.  DATA  EXCHANGE  
  256.    does NOT charge an on-line  connect  fee,  but 
  257.    telephone toll charges will apply if calling long-distance. 
  258.  
  259.    2.  If  you  wish, you can have a diskette mailed to  you  each  week
  260.    (Wednesday)   If  you chose the mail option, your disk will  be  sent
  261.    from  Tampa  by first-class mail. Since Tampa is an  important  post-
  262.    office  hub, it usually takes 1 to 3 days for mail to arrive in  most
  263.    major  metropolitan  areas.  Mail  to  smaller  towns  and   sparsely
  264.    populated  areas  may take 1 or 2 additional days. The fee  for  this
  265.    service  is $150.00 per season (April through October). This  fee  is
  266.    all inclusive. For those who wish overnight delivery, Federal Express
  267.    service is also available. Please write for details.

  270. SERVICE FEES:
  271. -------------
  272. If you have a modem and would rather receive your stats faster, then you 
  273. can  download the statistics each week from DATA EXCHANGE.  We  normally 
  274. have  the  prior  weeks' statistics  available for downloading beginning
  275. each  Tuesday   morning.   The fee for the Bulletin  Board  Service  is  
  276. $100.00  per  season.  This fee will also allow the user access  to  the 
  277. STATMAN conference where you will get online technical support regarding 
  278. STATMAN and the files needed to download.
  279.  
  280. FREE  STATISTICS!  The first month of the season, STATS ARE FREE!   Yes, 
  281. you can receive the first 4 weeks for free.  Just download them from our 
  282. BBS.   If  you don't have a modem, we will mail them to you  on   5.25", 
  283. 360k diskettes for a nominal $10 shipping and handling charge.

  288. LOGON PROCEDURES FOR DATA EXCHANGE
  289. ----------------------------------
  290. Since  you  are using the  BEST  Rotisserie  League  software  available 
  291. anywhere,  we would like to offer each of you a look-see at  our  online 
  292. statistics service.  For a limited time we are allowing those purchasers 
  293. of STATMAN that have a modem to dial in and have access to the  season's 
  294. first 4 weeks of statistics.  This means you don't have to pay  anything 
  295. until  you  decide  whether or not the stats service  is  for  you.   We 
  296. believe  that  after you try the service you will never  want  to  enter 
  297. statistics manually again.  However, if you choose not to continue using 
  298. the  stats, that's fine, too.  Please read the information in the  LOGON 
  299. flyer as to how to log on, etc.  Try the Statistics Service for a couple 
  300. of  weeks  and  if  you decide you want to  continue  using  the  online 
  301. service,  we  suggest that you make sure that  FANTASY  SPORTS  SOFTWARE 
  302. receives  your payment in the amount of $100.00 before the final week  of 
  303. the trial stats.

  305. To access DATA EXCHANGE, you will need a computer equipped with a modem.  
  306. DATA EXCHANGE  is a 24 hour, 7 days  per  week  Bulletin  Board   System 
  307. operating in Tampa,  Florida.   We  can accommodate modems from 300 baud 
  308. to 19,200 baud.  To call DATA EXCHANGE dial (813) 882-9613.  We can be 
  309. reached via PC-Pursuit (city code is FLTAM).

  311. When  you  first call the system, you will be required to answer  a  few 
  312. questions  in order to  be registered to the system.   Upon reaching the  
  313. MAIN MENU, type J;7 and press  the enter key. You will be transferred to 
  314. the STATMAN  conference.  To read STATMAN messages, type R and press the 
  315. enter key.  Follow the instructions to view those messages that you want
  316. to read.  To leave a message for STATMAN, type  E  and press enter. Make
  317. certain that your message is addressed to SYSOP. If you want to download
  318. STATMAN files, type D and press enter. You will be prompted for the file
  319. name. If you don't know the file name, press enter and the software will
  320. take you back to the STATMAN CONFERENCE prompt. From there, you can type
  321. F and  press  enter to  view the  names  of the  files  available.  DATA 
  322. EXCHANGE uses PC Board  software, version 15.1.  This is the best 
  323. bulletin board program available. We hope that you enjoy it.
