  1. The Library Program
  2.  
  3. The Library Program allows you to keep track of books, video tapes, and
  4. music.  You can search your collections by subject, author, artist, etc.
  5. The program comes in an archive called LIBRY.ZIP -- to unzip the files that
  6. make up the program, just type pkunzip LIBRY.ZIP.  You will see ten files,
  7. including this read.me file.  To run the program, type LIBRARY at the DOS
  8. prompt.  A screen will appear that tells you that this program is free.
  9. You are also presented with the choice to view information about products
  10. to teach you to write programs like the Library Program.  Choose the
  11. appropriate function with your right or left arrow keys and press ENTER.

  13. At the Library Program main menu, you will see three different choices.
  14. Use your arrow keys to choose the collection you want to view.  You can
  15. view books, video tapes, or music.  A handy feature in this program is the
  16. ability to track items that you loan to others.  The Library Program
  17. includes sample data for you to get an idea of how to setup your
  18. collections.  When you are ready to start your own files, you have two
  19. options to prepare the program for use.  Either delete all the data files
  20. with the program (these are the files with DAT as the extension -- for
  21. example, BOOKS.DAT is one of the data files), or you may delete each
  22. individual record from the collections by placing the cursor bar on each
  23. record, pressing the DELete key, and pressing ENTER.  The choice is up to
  24. you.  If the program cannot find the data files it needs, it creates new
  25. ones automatically.

  27. Common keystrokes that you need to be familiar with are:

  29.                 ESCape Key to go to Previous Screen
  30.                 INSert Key to Add A New Record
  31.                 ENTER Key to Change an Existing Record
  32.                 DELete Key to delete a record from the file
  33.                 CTRL-ENTER to Quick Save Info on an Update Form
  34.                 HOME Key to quickly go to the first of the visible
  35.                  records on a scrolling table
  36.                 END Key to quickly go to the last of the visible
  37.                  records on a scrolling table
  38.                 CTRL-PAGEUP to quickly go to the first record in the
  39.                  data file on a scrolling table
  40.                 CTRL-PAGEDOWN to quickly go to the last record in the
  41.                  data file on a scrolling table

  43. The purpose of this program is to introduce you to the opportunity of
  44. learning how to write programs like the Library Program.  With the tools
  45. we are making available, you can write programs like this one, without
  46. having to learn to program! (see TOOL_KIT.TXT file)
