  16.          One of the advantages of using GolfLog is that Golfers can
  17.          not only keep statistical data on all their golf games, but
  18.          also know the status of their Handicap Index after each
  19.          game is recorded.  By knowing this, and being able to take a
  20.          look at the stats provided by GolfLog, the Golfer is able to
  21.          know the progress of his/her game on a daily basis.

  212.              the user selected one of the "delete record" options.
  213.              This reduced the size of the executable file by about
  214.              2000 bytes and further reduced the memory requirements.

  218.              will now ask you if you wish to apply Equitable Stroke

  224.              used as a Golfer's "Home Course" for Handicap Index
  225.              purposes, the course be of 18 holes.  Nine hole courses

  228.              ready to select a course and GolfLog finds that there's
  229.              no 18 hole courses in the database, it will flash a small
  230.              box on screen informing you about the "18 hole course"
  231.              requirement.  It will do likewise if you select a 9 hole
  232.              course from the PickList when there's 18 hole courses
  233.              available for selection.

  236.          5.. Changed the look of the PickList used when selecting a
  237.              Course for adding Game Records, editing Course Records,
  238.              reviewing Course Records, deleting Course Records, and
  239.              selecting a course to be used for Handicap Index purposes.

  241.              the Course PAR, then Course name and finally, the city
  242.              and state where the course is located.

  247.              causing some confusion with users who do not have the
  248.              correct DIP switches set on their printer allowing it

  250.              your printer, print the file "GOLFLOG.DOC" and if you
  251.              get a rectangular box around the word "GolfLog" on the
  252.              first page, you have the correct settings.  If you get
  253.              a crazy mixture of miscellaneous characters, you need to
  254.              refer to your printer instructions for details on how to
  255.              set the DIP switches for printing graphics and "high ASCII"
  256.              characters.

  299.          1.. Added the ability for registered users to use the U.S.G.A.'s
  300.              Equitable Stroke Control (started by the U.S.G.A. in 1993).
  301.              The "ESC" sets a maximum number that a Golfer can post on
  302.              any hole depending on the Golfer's Course Handicap.  For
  303.              Handicapping purposes, you are required to adjust your
  304.              hole scores (actual or probable) when they are higher than
  305.              the maximum number you can post (see list below).  There is
  306.              NO LIMIT on the number of holes on which you can adjust your
  307.              score.

  309.              The registered user has the option of using "ESC" on a
  310.              selective basis.  This can be done when adding a new Golfer
  311.              to the database or by editing the records of Golfers who are
  312.              already in the database.  NOTE that before "ESC" can be
  313.              activated, the Golfer must have an established Handicap
  314.              Index.

  316.              "ESC" is applied ONLY on 18 hole games.  9 hole games
  317.              are not used when computing a Golfer's Handicap Index
  318.              and therefore "ESC" will not be applied to these games.

  332.              If you have "ESC" turned ON for a Golfer, GolfLog will
  333.              automagically determine the maximum hole score that can be
  334.              posted for that Golfer and adjust the score (ONLY if it's
  335.              over the maximum number per the above list) when the game
  336.              is being entered into the database.

  338.              If you decide that you do not want to use "ESC" then you
  339.              must edit the Golfer's record and turn it OFF.  It should
  340.              be understood that for a Golfer's Handicap Index to be
  341.              accurate, "ESC" should be turned ON after his/her first
  342.              Handicap Index is established.  When you have GolfLog
  343.              determine the Handicap Index and the result is "0" (meaning
  344.              the Golfer is a "scratch" Golfer), then "ESC" is turned ON
  345.              by GolfLog and remains there until it is turned OFF by the
  346.              user.

  348.              NOTE that by using "ESC", the Handicap Index established
  349.              by GolfLog will be more accurate than without it, and even
  350.              closer to the "official" Index established by the U.S.G.A.
  351.  
  352.              For more details about Equitable Stroke Control, contact
  353.              your local PGA Professional, Club Pro/Manager, or your
  354.              state Golf Association.

  357.          2.. Added the option to edit a Course Record.  With the exception
  358.              of the Course name, all other fields in the record can be
  359.              edited.  When this screen appears, it will show the current
  360.              value of each field.  To leave the value as is, press the
  361.              <Enter> Key without entering anything.  To change a value,
  362.              type over the information shown and press <Enter>.  If you
  363.              need to change the Course name, then you must delete the
  364.              Course Record and re-enter it under the new name using the
  365.              "Add Course Record" at the Main Menu.

  368.          3.. Revised the Utility Menu to include the option to edit a
  369.              Course Record.  Other minor cosmetic changes to this menu
  370.              were also made.

  373.          4.. When only one Golfer and/or one Course Record is in the
  374.              database, the user will no longer be asked to select the
  375.              Golfer and/or Course.  These will be automatically assumed
  376.              since, in actuality, there's no choice to be made. The only
  377.              time the user will be asked to select when only one record
  378.              is present, is when the user has selected an option to DELETE
  379.              that record.  This is to give the user one last chance to
  380.              back out before the record is removed from the database.
  381.              To backout at the last minute, the user can press <Escape>
  382.              when the "picklist" appears on screen showing the list of
  383.              records available.

  386.          5.. Removed the 286 version of the executable file (GOLF_286.COM)
  387.              from the archive.  This will make the size of the archive
  388.              much smaller.  Users running a 286 machine will have to use
  389.              the XT version (GOLFLOG.COM) since it now runs as fast as the
  390.              old 286 version.  Registered users may request, and receive
  391.              at no charge, a copy of GolfLog optimized for 286 AT machines
  392.              if desired.  NOTE also that the "XT" version will run on
  393.              everything from an "XT" up to the latest model computer,
  394.              provided of course that it is 100% IBM compatible.

  397.          6.. Recoded the printer routines for both the "Print Game Record"
  398.              and "Print Summary" Options.  Users should notice a speed
  399.              improvement from the time the Golfer and/or Game Record
  400.              is selected to the time printing actually begins.  Users
  401.              should understand also that as Game Records build up in the
  402.              database, the longer it will take for all the information to
  403.              be gathered and compiled.  NOTE also that printer buffers have
  404.              a lot to do with speed.  The larger the buffer, the faster
  405.              the printing will be.  Also, GolfLog now checks the printer
  406.              port immediately after either of these two options are
  407.              selected.  If the port number does not match the one found
  408.              in the configuration file or the port is not active, GolfLog
  409.              will honk at you and flash a message box on screen to advise
  410.              that the printer did not answer the door when GolfLog knocked.

  462.          While GolfLog attempts to be as accurate as possible when
  463.          arriving at a Golfer's Handicap Index and Course Handicap, it
  464.          in no way intends for the Golfer to use the figures obtained
  465.          as his/her "official" Handicap Index and Course Handicap.
  466.          Only the figures provided by the U.S.G.A. should be used when
  467.          a Golfer is entering Tournaments and being flighted based on
  468.          his/her Handicap Index.  To obtain an official Handicap Index
  469.          contact your local PGA Pro, Club Pro/Manager or your state
  470.          Golf Association.

  472.          GolfLog will run best if you run the proper version according
  473.          to the type machine you have.  If you have a 386 or 486 machine
  474.          then always run the 386 version (GOLF_386.COM) rather than the
  475.          XT version.  Also, it's a lot easier to select the version you
  476.          plan to use then rename that copy to GOLFLOG.COM using the
  477.          DOS "RENAME" command as in "RENAME GOLF_386.COM GOLFLOG.COM"
