  61. WHAT IS CBPOOL?
  62.  
  63. CBPool (College Basketball Pool) automates the mundane task of organizing a 
  64. basketball pool for the NCAA Division 1 men's tournament.  Ordinarily, when a 
  65. person organizes a basketball pool, that person is doomed to a year they later 
  66. wish to forget.  By the end of the tournament, the pool coordinator is so 
  67. tired of staying up late after the last game every night to calculate scores, 
  68. that their glad it's finally over.  CBPool enhances the enjoyment gained from 
  69. watching the tournament for both the participants and the pool coordinator.

  71. Unlike other software of its kind, CBPool is a Windows based application with 
  72. full help facilities.  CBPool utilizes the popular Windows "drag and drop" 
  73. method of entering data.  This allows those of us with not-so-nimble fingers 
  74. to enter data as fast as a touch typist!  Because CBPool is a Windows 
  75. application, learning CBPool is simple, and fun!

  78. INSTALLING CBPOOL
  79.  
  80. If you've gotten this far, installing CBPool is a snap.
  81. Note: There are two possible distribution ZIP files for CBPool.  CBPOOL1S.ZIP 
  82.       does not contain VBRUN300.DLL.  If you have CBPOOL1S.ZIP, and do not 
  83.       have VBRUN300.DLL, ask your sysop how to get this file.  When you get 
  84.       it, copy it to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  If your ZIP file 
  85.       is named "CBPOOL1.ZIP", this file is included. 
  86.  
  87. 1.  UnZip the distribution file to a subdirectory or floppy disk.  Be sure to 
  88.     save the ZIP file to pass out to your friends.  Distributing CBPool in any 
  89.     other format than the original ZIP file is strictly prohibited.  If you 
  90.     received this file unzipped, there is an increased chance of virus 
  91.     infection.  Check on CompuServe or your local BBS for the latest version.  
  92. 2.  If you are at the DOS prompt, type win to start Microsoft Windows.
  93. 3.  Open the Program Manager window, if it is not open.
  94. 4.  From the File menu, choose Run.  The Run box will appear.
  95. 5.  In the Command Line text box, type:

  97.     a:setup          If installing from floppy drive A
  98.     or
  99.     b:setup          If installing from floppy drive B
  100.     or
  101.     \<path>\setup    If installing from a sub-directory
  102.  
  103. 6.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
  104. 7.  The installation program will create a CBPool program group.  Click the 
  105.     CBPool Basketball Icon to enter CBPool.  We recommend that you press F1 
  106.     for help, and then select "How to use CBPool" for an introduction to 
  107.     running a pool with CBPool.  If you're not familiar with Windows help, 
  108.     press F1 when in the help screen for help on using help. 
  109. 8.  Don't forget to register this software.  It is unethical to use CBPool for 
  110.     an entire pool without registering.  And besides, registering will give 
  111.     you free technical support when needed, and the next version mailed 
  112.     directly to you (Just think, no service, connect time, or BBS fees).

  115. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  117. Microsoft Windows 3.0 or later version
  118. 2 Meg RAM (4 recommended)
  119. VBRUN300.DLL in your windows system directory
  120.    - Note: this is included within CBPOOL1.ZIP
  121. Any printer with a Windows driver capable of printing graphics
  122. Mouse or other pointing device

  126. COMMON INSTALLATION QUESTIONS (Also see Questions & Answers in on-line help)

  128. Question : During installation, I get one of the following messages:
  129.            File already exists [Overwrite?]
  130.            Sharing Violation
  131.            File in use
  132.            Warning - Can not copy file xxxxx.xxx since the 
  133.                      destination file is already in use.
  134. Answer :   It is common to have some of the CBPool distribution files already 
  135.            on your computer.  These files are used in several software 
  136.            applications but aren't included with Windows 3.0 and/or 3.1.  
  137.            CBPool includes all necessary files to run the application (except 
  138.            VBRUN300.DLL in CBPOOL1S.ZIP) so you don't have to search for 
  139.            additional files elsewhere.  This is a convenience that can
  140.            sometimes cause confusion.  If you get any of the messages stated 
  141.            above, that does NOT mean that CBPool installation failed. 
  142. Question : After installation, I get one of the following messages:
  143.            File Error - Cannot Find VBRUN300.DLL
  144.            File Not Found - CMDIALOG.VBX
  145.            File Error - Cannot Find PORIENT.DLL
  146. Answer :   The file mentioned in the error text could not be found in the 
  147.            Windows system directory (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM on most systems).  
  148.            Reinstall CBPool to correct the problem.  If this does not work, 
  149.            your copy of CBPool may be bad, get another copy from CompuServe 
  150.            (or other source) or contact Vitek Enterprises to order a copy.  We 
  151.            guarantee the integrity of our disks. 
  152. Question : When I press F1, I get the message "Cannot open help file".
  153. Answer :   CBPool cannot locate the CBHELP.HLP help file.  Check your hard 
  154.            disk for this file and copy it to the CBPool startup directory.  If 
  155.            you don't find this file, reinstall CBPool.  If this does not 
  156.            correct the problem, your copy of CBPool is incomplete and you 
  157.            should contact Vitek Enterprises for a new copy.  We will want to 
  158.            know where (i.e. BBS) you got your copy of CBPool so we can update 
  159.            them with a complete copy. 
  160. Question : My computer is too old to run Windows.  Is there a DOS version?
  161. Answer :   As of February 1994, the only version of CBPool is a Microsoft 
  162.            Windows version.  Let us know (CompuServe or US Mail) if you would 
  163.            be interested in ordering a DOS version.

  166. REGISTERING CBPOOL
  167.  
  168. Shareware is a marketing method in the computer world similar to the test 
  169. drive in the automotive world.  It allows users a chance to try-before-they-
  170. buy the software.  In this case, you are allowed to use CBPool at no cost for 
  171. an evaluation period.  This evaluation period has no time limit, but simply 
  172. states:  If you use CBPool to run a basketball pool, you are required to 
  173. register the software.  Sound fair?  I think so.  If you spend the time to use 
  174. CBPool throughout an entire pool, you obviously believe the software is either 
  175. neat, or offers a significant time savings.  Either one of these reasons is 
  176. enough to support the producers of the software to encourage them to produce 
  177. such software in the future.

  179. If you register your copy of CBPool, you are entitled to a free update.  New 
  180. versions will incorporate all reasonable enhancements suggested by users like 
  181. yourself.  The mailing of the update will save you the trouble of downloading 
  182. the next version and paying any connect time charges associated with doing so.  
  183. In addition, registering CBPool will entitle you access to our technical 
  184. support staff.  You may submit questions through CompuServe (Preferred 
  185. method), Internet, or by phone.  CompuServe messages are given priority over 
  186. others.

  188. To register CBPool, print the order form and mail it to Vitek Enterprises at 
  189. the address stated on the form.  You may also register CBPool on CompuServe in

  195. UNINSTALLING CBPOOL

  197. If you wish to uninstall CBPool, delete all files from the installation 
  198. directory you selected during the setup process. Then delete the following 
  199. files from your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory:

  202. PORIENT.DLL
  203. CMDIALOG.VBX
  204. COMMDLG.DLL - DO NOT delete this file if you are running Windows 3.1.  If in 
  205.               doubt, don't delete this file.
  206. Caution : Many other Windows applications use these files.  If you delete a 
  207.           file required by another application, the application will no longer 
  208.           work.  Delete with caution.
