The Astrologer's Assistant Version 2.00
2.1 - Setting Up Your Hard Disk
-------------------------------
The first thing you need to do is ensure that you create a subdirectory on
your hard disk to hold The Astrologer's Assistant. To do this, access your
hard disk (usually done by typing in "C:" and pressing the [Enter] key). Now
type "CD \" and press [Enter]. For the purpose of this tutorial, you will
use the subdirectory name "ASSIST", but you can use whatever you want. Type
"MD ASSIST" and press [Enter]. This will create the ASSIST subdirectory.
Now type in "CD ASSIST" and press [Enter] to change to the ASSIST
subdirectory on your hard disk.
Place The Astrologer's Assistant diskette into your floppy drive A:. Type in
"COPY A:ASSIST20.EXE" and press [Enter]. Note that you can use floppy drive
B:, in which case you would type in "COPY B:ASSIST20.EXE" and press [Enter].
The file is rather large, and it will take a moment to copy. Once the file
has been copied, type in "ASSIST20" and press [Enter]. This file is a self-
extracting archive, and will create The Astrologer's Assistant files in your
ASSIST subdirectory. When the extraction process is complete, you may erase
the ASSIST20.EXE file on your hard disk by typing "ERASE ASSIST20.EXE" and
pressing [Enter]. Now type "DIR" and press [Enter] to see what Astrologer's
Assistant files you have. You should see the following:
ASSIST.EXE - The main program.
ASSIST.HLP - Data file for the help system.
ASSIST.ICO - Icon for Windows v3.1.
ASSIST.OVR - Overlay file for the main program.
ASSIST.PIF - PIF file for Windows v3.1.
ASSIST.WLD - Data file for the World map.
DPMI16BI.OVL - Overlay file for protected mode versions only.
MANUAL - Documentation for The Astrologer's Assistant.
RTM.EXE - Run Time Manager for protected mode versions only.
To print the manual, type "COPY MANUAL > PRN" or "TYPE MANUAL > PRN". Note
that the manual makes use of extended ASCII characters, so be sure your
printer is capable of printing them. The manual is quite large and will
take some time to complete printing. Please ensure you have at least an
inch or two of computer paper available.
REVISION HISTORY
----------------
Version Date Comments
------- ---- --------
v2.0 01-11-94 Initial release.
Composite Vertex (Cv) was for wrong value in the Angles
display box. The value being calculated was for the East
Point (EP). This has been corrected.
Discovered a rounding error when converting to PASCAL.
Planetary values were never rounding up. The actual
value was NOT at fault, just what was being displayed on
the screen. For example, a planet with a longitude of
41.999991 should round up to display as +42 00. Instead,
they were displaying as +41 00. This has been corrected.
If you compare the v1.?? to v2.00, you may find some
differences. This is due to correcting this error.
