  6. USING ZDCS WITH CD-ROMS
  7.  
  8. CD-ROMs are becoming more popular with sysops as a cost-effective way of making
  9. large collections of shareware and public domain software available to their
  10. callers for downloading.  But because a CD-ROM can contain so many megabytes of
  11. files, you might think it difficult to keep track of all the files and prevent
  12. any duplicates from being added to the collection.

  14. ZDCS provides the solution.  It serves both the sysop putting a CD-ROM online
  15. and the manufacturer preparing to master a new CD-ROM.

  18. IF YOU'RE A SYSOP

  20. Sysops can take advantage of the pre-built ZDCS 2.0 databases available for
  21. many of the most popular CD-ROMs.  You'll find them available for individual
  22. download on The Bloom Beacon-Picayune BBS, along with the merge utility package
  23. Z2-DBMG.ZIP.  Inside that ZIP package is the merge utility ZDCSDBMG.EXE and a
  24. detailed, step by step explanation of how to merge your existing ZDCS database
  25. with any of the pre-built ones.  It's a simple operation and much faster than
  26. creating a new database from scratch, but we've taken the chance on insulting
  27. your intelligence by laying out all the steps for you anyway.

  30. IF YOU'RE A CD-ROM MANUFACTURER
  31.  
  32. CD-ROM makers can use the database build feature of ZDCS to create a database
  33. of the file collection before it goes for final mastering. Then you can use the
  34. database report generator to identify any duplicates in the collection.  This
  35. gives you an easy way to clean up the files and assure your customers of a high
  36. quality collection of files.  In fact, we encourage you, via a free
  37. registration offer, to put a ZDCS 2.0 database right on the CD-ROM for your
  38. customers' convenience.

  43. To make the use of pre-built databases even more attractive for the benefit of
  44. sysops, we are making the following offer to CD-ROM manufacturers, good through
  45. the end of 1994:

  47.    If you master a new CD-ROM and you put the ZDCS 2.0 pre-built database for
  48.    that CD-ROM right on the disk, we will give you a full ZDCS registration
  49.    when you notify us of the details for distribution to ZDCS sysops (CD-ROM
  50.    name, company name, contact information, and expected release date).
