RIPKit for PCBoard
==============================================================================
Requirements
---------------------------------------
* PCBoard v15.1
* A fair amount of experience with a RIPaint type of program and PCBoard
* Plenty of time (you will now have more screens to update for your system).
The Goal Of RIPKit
---------------------------------------
The goal of RIPKit is to simply provide PCBoard SysOps with a starting
point for "RIPping" their systems. By no means is this kit designed to
be a hands-off / self-maintaining RIPscrip add-in for PCBoard.
If you keep the focus of this product in mind, you'll understand the reason
we listed experience with a paint program and PCBoard as a requirement.
Without this experience, you'll quickly get lost in the complexity of a
heavily modified system for RIPscrip.
Support For RIPKit
---------------------------------------
RIPKit was put together by the technical support staff of CDC in some
of their free time between answering calls and messages. As such, support
for the product is extremely limited.
Support for RIPkit can *only* be obtained via the Salt Air BBS. Customers
asking questions via other means (e.g., fax or phone), will be referred
to the Salt Air BBS to ask their questions.
Installation Instructions
---------------------------------------
1) Change to your \PCB directory. Make a RIP directory by typing "MD RIP"
at the DOS prompt. Change to the newly created RIP subdirectory and
unzip RIPKIT.ZIP using the following command:
PKUNZIP RIPKIT.ZIP -d
This will create the following new subdirectories:
\PCB\RIP\ - Where file replacements for PCBTEXT records are
\PCB\RIP\PPE\ - PPEs (and associated files) used in the RIPKit.
\PCB\RIP\MENUS\ - MNUs (and associated files) used in the RIPKit.
NOTE: If your system involves a network, you only have to have one copy
of the RIPKit files. If performance is a concern, store the RIPKit
files on each workstation of your network.
2) Add the following line to AUTOEXEC.BAT (remember to do this to each
machine in your system).
SET PCBRIP=C:\PCB\RIP
If your files are not in C:\PCB\RIP\, enter the appropriate directory.
For example, Salt Air, stores all of the RIPKit files on the server in
the H:\PCB\RIP\ subdirectory. Consequently, our line in AUTOEXEC.BAT
looks like this:
SET PCBRIP=H:\PCB\RIP
NOTE: Do *NOT* add the trailing backslash to this environment variable.
If you do, the RIPKit stuff will not work. Throughout the
PCBTEXT.RIP (and several display files), relative references
are made. Example:
%%PCBRIP%\DISPLAYIT
When PCBoard substitutes the environent variable, the result is:
%C:\PCB\RIP\DISPLAYIT
Obviously, if you have the trailing backslash, the resulting
substutition is:
%C:\PCB\RIP\\DISPLAYIT
Since this is not a valid filename specification, it won't work.
3) Move PCBTEXT.RIP from the \PCB\RIP subdirectory to your PCBTEXT
subdirectory. If your system has a local copy of PCBTEXT for each node
or workstation, take that into consideration.
4) Move WELCOME.RIP from the \PCB\RIP subdirectory to the directory where your
WELCOME file is. If your system has a local copy of the WELCOME file for
each node/workstation, keep that in mind.
NOTE: If you have changed the name of your WELCOME file to something else,
you will have to rename WELCOME.RIP to the name of your welcome file and
add a .RIP extension. For example, if PCBSetup | File Locations | Display
Files shows:
Name/Loc of WELCOME File : C:\PCB\GEN\WELC
Rename your WELCOME.RIP to WELC.RIP after copying it to C:\PCB\GEN\.
5) The next group of files relate to conferences. The configuration for each
conference specifies where the User Menu (BRDM), SysOp Menu (BRDS), and
NEWS file are stored.
Move/Copy BRDM.RIP and BRDS.RIP to the same location as your BRDM and BRDS
files. If you have changed the names of your BRDM and BRDS files, don't
forget to change the names of the .RIP counterparts. For example, if your
Main Board Configuration screen shows:
Name/Loc of User's Menu : C:\PCB\GEN\USERS
Name/Loc of Sysop's Menu : C:\PCB\GEN\SYSOP
Rename BRDM.RIP to USERS.RIP and BRDS.RIP to SYSOP.RIP after copying/moving
them to the appropriate subdirectory.
Do the same thing for the NEWS.RIP file making sure it gets copied to the
right directory and the name of the corresponding .RIP file is correct.
Once you have taken care of the placement and naming of the NEWS.RIP file,
edit the file with a text editor because it hard codes the name of your
actual NEWS file.
What happens with the RIPKit is PCBoard finds the NEWS.RIP, displays the
NEWS_.RIP located in the \PCB\RIP\ subdirectory (to setup the display
for RIP, the text window, etc.). Finally, your normal NEWS file is
displayed.
6) Unzip the CMDFILES.ZIP (located in \PCB\RIP) into the directory specified by
the following field in PCBSetup | File Locations System Files:
Location of Command Display Files : C:\PCB\CMDFILES\
Using this example, you would type:
PKUNZIP \PCB\RIP\CMDFILES.ZIP C:\PCB\CMDFILES
NOTE: If you do not have a directory specified in PCBSetup, enter one
(like \PCB\CMDFILES) and create the directory if necessary.
7) Update PCBML.DAT with RIP Language (Check all nodes to make sure they are
configured to run multiple languages, and that they all point to the same
PCBML.DAT. Example PCBML.DAT:

Also check to see if your system is setup to support multiple languages.
PCBSetup | Configuration Options | System Control has a setting:
Multi-Lingual Operation : Y
Make sure this option is set to "Y" for proper operation.
8) Unzip FLAG32.ZIP in the \PCB\RIP subdirectory to your \PCB\FLAG
subdirectory (unless you've already installed FLAG.PPE). Once this
is done, modify record 549 in your *PCBTEXT.RIP* to look like the
following:

NOTE: You may already have David Terry's FLAG.PPE installed on your
system. If you do, simply update your PCBTEXT.RIP (record 549)
with the appropriate information.
9) Modify record 387 in the default PCBTEXT file. This record is the
"Enter Language # to use" prompt. You want this record to read:

The LANGPRMP.PPE auto-detects if the user has RIP capabilities. If
so, it automatically picks the language number which is defined as
having a .RIP extension in PCBML.DAT.
