WHAT IS INTROS.EXE?
Intros is for the PCBoard Sysop who would like a utility to create
his/her << INTRO >> Files for their RIME Conferences. **NOTE** INTRO
Files were introduced in PCBoard with the 15.0 version.
WHY THIS PROGRAM?
It all started... <g>, when I took my updated RIMEPOST.TXT File and took
many hours creating a few INTRO Screens for my RIME Conferences, by
taking an editor such as *PCBEdit or *THEDRAW and my faithful text editor
and going through the Conference File cutting, pasting and drawing boxes
around the Conference information. How many of us have spent a few
hours doing that???
Thus, the idea for INTROS.EXE was born...
WHAT WILL IT DO?
INTROS.EXE will take the RIMEPOST.TXT File and optionally read thru it
and create an INTRO Screen for every Conference in the File. You may
also choose up to 32 individual Conferences instead of writing out all
of the Files. INTROS.EXE will handle all of your PCB @X Color Codes for
you and give you the option of choosing "6" different Color schemes. It
will also format each File to 20 lines per file to prevent the "MORE"
prompt after each INTRO. The Files that are written by INTROS.EXE will
be in the format of Conference number appended with either "A, B, C, D,
E, or F", depending on the Color Scheme that you choose. The Conference
number will always be the RIME Conference number - for example the first
Conference in the RIMEPOST.TXT File is #100. If you choose Color Scheme
1, this will write a file to the directory you choose as 100A.
Confused? More about this later... It's really very simple to use and
will save you << H O U R S >> of time...

INTRO FILES IN "PCBoard"...
As mentioned earlier INTRO Files were introduced with version 15.0 of
PCBoard. Many of us in the past have used the NEWS File in each
Conference as an introduction to a particular RIME Conference and as a
matter of fact you can still use this INTROS.EXE program to create a
NEWS File and optionally place it in each Conference as an Introduction.
I would like to take this time to thank Clark Development for all of the
fine work they do in programming PCBoard for us! I have found the INTRO
File feature to be very useful.
SOME OPTIONS ON SETTING UP YOUR INTRO FILES IN "PCBoard"...
You may set an Environment Switch in your BOARD.BAT File of:
/FORCEINTRO
If a caller uses the "Q' subcommand when joining a conference,
the INTRO file is not normally displayed. This Environment
switch will ensure the INTRO file is displayed every time a
conference with an INTRO file is joined.
Example:
SET PCB=/FORCEINTRO
When running PCBSetup (Conferences) you will have an entry for the
following:
Name/Loc of Conf INTRO File
Each conference may have an Introduction File. This file is
normally used to notify the user of any particular items of
interest about the Conference or for a conference description.
This file will be displayed each and every time the user joins a
conference unless the "Q" Subcommand is used when joining the
Conference. This file may be displayed while doing mail scans
as well if you have enabled the "Show INTRO in 'R A' scan
(Conference Options Screen)
In this field is where you enter the name and location of the
INTRO file for the Conference. If this field is left blank, no
INTRO File will be shown.
When running PCBSetup (Conferences) - under the Conference Options
Screen - you will have an entry for the following:
Show INTRO in 'R A' Scan
N = Conference introduction files will only be displayed
when joining conferences and not during new mail scans.
Y = In addition to being displayed when joining a
conference, the INTRO File will be displayed when
scanning for new mail using the "A" or "ALL"
subcommands of the "R" user command.

RECOMMENDATIONS ON USING INTROS.EXE
Create a subdirectory to house all of your RIME Conference INTRO Files.
Example: C:\PCB\INTROS
Execute INTROS.EXE and have it write all of your INTRO Files to this
subdirectory.
Go into each of your RIME Conferences and place the file name associated
with this Conference in the "Name/Loc of Conf INTRO File:"
Example: "Name/Loc of Conf INTRO File: C:\PCB\INTROS\377A
"In the above example 377A is the INTRO File for the CD-Rom
RIME Conference."
THAT'S it as far as setting up your INTRO Files using PCBoard and
INTROS.EXE...
=========================================================================
Some notes concerning the use of INTROS.EXE:
INTROS.EXE currently reads RIMEPOST.TXT file in the format posted below
- you may call this file anything you wish. For example if you
currently have it as one of your bulletins as I do, - you may have
INTROS.EXE read the file BLT12 for example...
This is the current format for the RIMEPOST.TXT File.
RelayNet (tm) Channel List

Your board may not carry all these conferences. If you spot a
conference you would like, ask your sysop. The numbers listed below
reflect the national conference number, those on your bulletin board
may be different. Also, some networks that we share conferences with
do not allow or have the capability for *Private* or *Receiver Only*
messages, due to software differences. Please check with the Host of
the Conference to make sure that such capabilities are available.
The following conferences are available to all *RelayNet (tm)*
members. The message traffic ratings are listed immediately below
but may fluctuate between levels at times. These ratings are based
on the latest message traffic at the NetHub.

Some of the RIME Conference descriptions are greater in length of lines
than the INTROS.EXE will format. These Files will still have to be
edited manually. Some current examples include Conferences "104, 172,
204, and 271"
=========================================================================
We hope you enjoy using INTROS.EXE and find it to be a useful addition
to your editing tools.
We are always open for suggestions for improving our products and are
most willing to listen to your suggestions for new products..
