GTOCHAT.PPE v1.0 Written by Voc, who says "This was no breeze..."
First of all, this is a Chat Between Nodes PPE. Hear me out. No, it does
not give you a second or third node, but gives your PCBoard the appearance
of just that. Second, you can get about 11/12th of this PPE if you chose
more than one node when you installed PCB, however when a person actually
types "CHAT" followed by "CALL" or "WHO" then the fact that there is only
one node will be revealed. This PPE will not reveal that. I have duplicated
the original CHAT between nodes as close as I could. The few bugs are
included at the end if you wish to see what they are. (Only a person who
chats often would pick them up.) I have set this PPE up so that it gives
the system the appearance of 3 nodes. Two being remote and one local. Node
1 is the caller who is on-line at that moment. Node 2 is the SYSOP who is the
only one who can be paged. Node 3 utilizes the PCB variable:
@LASTCALLERSYSTEM@ which will display the last caller as being on Node 3.
The only way, that this will be screwed up is if a caller happened to call
twice in a row or if the sysop happened to...
Besides act as false node list, this PPE also allows the caller to call
the sysop who will be shown as executing a local login when "WHO" is entered.
This means that you will be available for chat and can be paged. For some
sysops, that is extremely annoying. Others, enjoy to chat with their users.
(I didn't make the page bell too bad to hear.) If you want the page bell on,
then goto the pcbsetup, hit B, B again, and edit CMD.LST. (U Know that
routine by now, don't you?) Replace the command CHAT with GTOCBN1.PPE in the
correct path. If you want the page bell off, then replace CHAT with
GTOCBN2.PPE. Do the same replacing the WHO command. GTOWHO1.PPE or GTOWHO2.PPE
depending on what you prefer.
The Help files and Menu are all saved in PCB codes, so you may create new
ones if you wish, but they MUST be under the same name!!
Chatting is not difficult. Once you run the ppe and are at the chat prompt,
hit MENU for the commands.
I hope you enjoy the PPE. It took a long time to write for a small effect,
but might have been worth it if this catches on.
The following are bugs and closing notes:
BUG: When you press ENTER at the command line, then it will automatically
execute the last command you entered rather than type:
Hit ESC to exit CHAT:
(1) @FIRST@:
BUG: Switches such as eXpert mode do not necessarily switch.
ex: command? x
Expert Mode now on @FIRST@ . . .
command? x
Expert Mode now on @FIRST@ . . .
BUG: After chatting/paging the sysop, you will be sent back to the main menu
rather than go to the CHAT menu.
BUG: Channel #1 will automatically be joined. This will not affect the
outcome of the ppe anyway, since this is not a real chat between nodes.
BUG: Topics cannot be changed because that would be impossible seeing
that there are many many many different possible inputs by the user.
NOTE: There is a reason for each of the bugs not working, so the case
might be that they cannot be fixed since this is only a PPE or just not
worth the time or effort on my part.
NOTE: Changing handles in chat mode has been disabled, so nothing will
result if "HANDLE" is typed at the prompt.
If I decide to alter any of this, than you can bet that I will release an
updated version. Never as good as the one on GTO though ;)
