There are no user selectable printer properties for HP DeskJet Family Printers.
Use Device Defaults to configure default job properties to be applied to a
print job when none are supplied by an application or a print queue.

Printing Envelopes on the HP DeskJet 550C Printer
The HP DeskJet 550C printer feeds envelopes in a landscape format. To
successfully print on C10 or DL Envelopes you may need to select Landscape
Page Orientation and/or Landscape printing in your software application. See
the information that came with your printer for more information on printing
envelopes.

Media Source
Select the appropriate Media Source for the media you have selected:
Type Description
Paper Tray Load paper from the DeskJet Paper Tray.
Manual Envelope Load envelope manually (DeskJet, DeskJet Plus, DeskJet
500).
Note
For most models there is only one selection available (Paper Tray).
The DeskJet Portable and DeskJet 310 can use the optional HP Cut-Sheet Feeder
or feed the paper manually when 'Paper Tray' is selected as the Media Source.
The DeskJet, DeskJet Plus, and DeskJet 500 support manual feed envelopes and
should always select the Manual Envelope Tray when using envelopes.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Dry Timer ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Dry Timer
Available on the DeskJet 550C.
Selecting Dry Timer 'On' causes each page of printed output to be held for a
certain amount of time before being dropped onto the previously printed page
allowing each page to dry fully.
This is particularly useful for leaving your printer unattended during a large
printout and not having to worry about ink smearing from one page to another.
See the tables below to see the amount of time each page will be held based on
ink used, print quality, media type, and type of output port.

Note
Γûá Print time for each page is included as part of Drytime.
Γûá The first page of every print job will drop immediately.
Γûá You may override Drytime on any page by pressing the LOAD/EJECT button on the
DeskJet printer. The current page will drop immediately and the next page will
begin printing.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Print Mode ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Print Mode
The Print Modes available with your printer may include:
Black Only Color Only and Black and Color.
Print Mode Description
Black Only Prints using the black print cartridge.
Color Only Prints using the color print cartridge only (HP
DeskJet 310, 500C, and 550C). Black will be
printed as a composite of colored ink.
Black and Color Prints using both the color and black print
cartridges (HP DeskJet 550C).
Printing to the HP DeskJet 310 or 500C Printer
If the currently installed print cartridge (black or color) does not match the
selected Print Mode, the print carriage moves to the center position and the
Change Cartridge light on the printer control panel blinks.
To print at this point, you must insert the correct print cartridge and press
the Print Cartridge button to return the print cartridge to it's "home"
position, printing will continue. If the print cartridge is not changed in 5
minutes, the print carriage returns to the "home" position and the Change
Cartridge light continues to blink.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Print Quality ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Print Quality
The Print Quality settings available for your printer may include:
Normal, Draft, and Presentation.
Print Quality Description
Normal Uses 300 dpi printing at a faster speed to produce
high quality images.
Draft Uses 150 dpi printing to increase print speed and use
less ink.
Presentation Uses 300 dpi printing at a slower speed to produce the
highest quality images (available on the HP DeskJet
310, 500C, 550C, and 510 printers).

Select the Media Type you will use from the following:
Type Description
Plain Paper For 16 to 36 lb paper and 20 to 24 lb envelopes.
Transparency HP LX JetSeries Transparency Film.
Special Paper HP CX JetSeries CutSheet Paper, for color printing
only.
Glossy Paper HP LX JetSeries Glossy Paper.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Color Saturation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Color Saturation
The Color Saturation settings control the amount of ink that is printed on the
page. The following options are only available with the HP DeskJet 310, 500C
and 550C printer models when configured to the Color Only or Black and Color
Print Mode
Setting Description
Minimum Prints using the least amount of ink on the page
to produce lighter images.
Maximum Prints using the greatest amount of ink on the
page to produce darker images.

About
The About button allows you to determine the current version of the HP DeskJet
Family Driver for OS/2 PM that you are using. It also displays copyright
information.
