LATEST RELEASE OF THE DEVELOPER CONNECTION
Austin, Texas, March 15, 1994 ... In response to developer demand for
even more OS/2 material, IBM today released Volume 3 of The Developer
Connection for OS/2 which contains a wealth of new tools, support and
information for application developers, including prerelease versions of
networking, pen and object technology products.
The Developer Connection, CD-ROM and newsletter delivered four times a
year, provides easy and timely access to the latest tools, technology,
sample code, APIs and technical information about OS/2. Support is
provided through a private section of the OS2DF2 developer forum on
CompuServe**.
"In continuing our commitment to comprehensive developer support, we've
added the latest prerelease development tools and most recent,
cutting-edge information to this new volume of The Developer Connection
for OS/2," said Barbara Britt, product manager for OS/2 development
tools. "The increasing demand among developers for object technology
and more tools prompted us to enhance Volume 3 with the SOMobjects Base
Toolkit and a beta version of the Source Migration Analysis Reporting
Tool."
Along with the latest updates to the OS/2 operating system, subscribers
to The Developer Connection are given a limited license*** to a full set
of prerelease tools for developing and testing OS/2 applications. For
developers interested in networking, Volume 3 includes prerelease
versions of LAN Distance for OS/2 and the DCE for OS/2 Starter Kit.
Also included in Volume 3 is a prerelease version of the Pen for OS/2
base and selected items from the SOMobjects Base Toolkit and several
products from independent software vendors, including a beta version of
the Source Migration Analysis Reporting Tool, --S.M.A.R.T.--, developed
by One Up Corporation. The beta release of S.M.A.R.T will provide
support for converting 16-bit Windows and OS/2 applications to 32-bit
OS/2 applications. A second release of S.M.A.R.T., planned by One Up
for the second quarter, will convert 32-bit Windows applications to
OS/2.
"The Developer Connection News," written by members of IBM's OS/2
development team and independent software vendors, provides insight into
the future of OS/2, programming tips, and other technical information.
Topics explored in Volume 3 include SOM, OpenDoc technology, S.M.A.R.T.,
and OS/2 programming.
