  10. The FCC has released the results of a telephone interference survey
  11. just completed.  35 FCC field offices each picked three random cases
  12. of telephone interference on record and then visited the scene.  The
  13. transmitting stations included 47 Citizens Band; 27 Amateur; 23 AM
  14. broadcast; 10 FM broadcast; and one international broadcast station.

  16. At the location experiencing interference, the FCC's Field
  17. Operations Bureau personnel would first test the telephones on site,
  18. and then test their own "bulletproof" telephones, as well as several
  19. commercially available filters.  241 different telephones were
  20. tested.

  22. Among the FCC's conclusions was that transmitter power did not seem
  23. to be a significant factor; they said that 10 watts or less caused
  24. telephone interference in one-third of the cases.

  26. The FCC also said that filters worked only one-third of the time.
  27. "Manufacturers can design telephones to be interference free," the
  28. Commission said, citing its bulletproof telephones, which were
  29. immune from interference "virtually all of the time."

  31. The FCC said that it hopes that the survey will encourage affected
  32. parties "to productively address and resolve this problem."
