  9. A bill introduced in the Georgia Legislature that would eliminate
  10. the effect of restrictive property covenants on amateurs is believed
  11. to be the first of its type in the nation, according to Georgia
  12. Section Manager Jim Altman, N4UCK.
  13.  
  14. The bill, H.B. 1134, would prevent all new and renewed covenants
  15. from regulating, controlling, or restricting antennas owned and
  16. operated by licensed amateurs in the state.

  18. Altman said that, in Georgia, all restrictive covenants have a life
  19. of 20 years, but can be renewed.  This law, in banning new and
  20. renewed covenants, would leave the existing covenants in place until
  21. their natural expiration, and prevent new ones.  Over the next 20
  22. years, all  existing covenants would disappear.

  24. The bill was initially referred to the State Bar committee on real
  25. property law, which gave the measure a ''do pass'' recommendation.
