  2.            Problems reported by phone and testing
  3.  
  4. One of the first problems we have found is that the manual and\or 
  5. Readme file does not reflect the 2.3 steps, screens, and menus 
  6. especially in installing and configuring 
  7.  
  8.  
  9. INSTALL
  10.  
  11.   Some people are confused when, after the installation of 2.3 they 
  12. still have the printer list for 2.2.  The first installation of 2.3 
  13. over 2.2 keeps the 2.2 printer list. 
  14.  
  15.   Hard Drive
  16.   Run-time error when PAF tries to add C:\PAF to the PATH statement in 
  17. AUTOEXEC.BAT - this is not consistent on all computers 
  18.  
  19.   Sometimes PAF incorrectly adds the C:\PAF to the PATH or does not 
  20. format the PATH statement correctly - seems to depend on how the PATH 
  21. statement 
  22.  
  23.   Dual Floppy
  24.   Previous 5 1/4 working diskettes need to be formatted before 
  25. installing release 2.3. 
  26.

  28. CONFIGURATION
  29.  
  30.   Using the number 26 anywhere in configuration setup will cause the 
  31. error "Could not find configuration file. Using defaults. Press ENTER" 
  32. when starting to run PAF 2.3 programs.

  34.   Hard Drive
  35.   Does not easily accommodate multiple PAF programs to be installed 
  36. and configured. 
  37.  
  38.   Dual Floppy
  39.   Does not update 5 1/4 working disks number two and three with the 
  40. PAFCONF.DAT file. 
  41.  
  42.   There isn't enough room on the help disk for the GIE help and FR 
  43. help indexes.

  45.  
  46. FAMILY RECORDS 
  47.  
  48.   Some XTs and other computers must disable the mouse function with 
  49. the -m switch or the computer will lock up when trying to run FR or 
  50. GIE.  This appears to be some incompatibility with earlier versions of 
  51. DOS or computers and the way PAF initializes the mouse. 
  52.  
  53.   Unable to change name case by just retyping it.  You have to clear 
  54. out the field, move the cursor out of the field, move the cursor back 
  55. in the field, retype the name and then press ENTER. 
  56.  
  57.   Ditto from previous entry while toggling between two databases work 
  58. to ditto dates, but because the name codes are being dittoed when you 
  59. ditto name or places between the databases you will get the names or 
  60. places that are assigned to the name codes being dittoed. 
  61.  
  62.   If you choose "Check Data" from the backup reminder screen, then 
  63. after the check choose "Backup Data", then without a disk in the 
  64. backup drive specified press F1 to make the backup,  BROTHERNEPHEW 
  65. appears at the bottom of the screen instead of ABORT or RETRY. 
  66.  
  67.   When printing an ahnentafel chart w\o enough memory the message "not 
  68. enough memory to print pedigree chart" appears. 
  69.  
  70.   If a family that has parents is displayed in the pedigree search 
  71. screen and then a family with one or both parents missing is called up 
  72. by MRIN, the screen displays the parent(s) of the previous family. 
  73.  
  74.   When the alpha browse is being rebuilt, pressing Ctrl-C should 
  75. cancel the rebuild.  Apparently it is only suspending the rebuild 
  76. because if you choose alpha browse again after pressing Ctrl-C the 
  77. rebuild continues from where it left off. 
  78.  
  79.   When rebuilding alpha browse file the message "Press Ctrl-C to quit" 
  80. is displayed over the top of data if the rebuild was cancelled and 
  81. then restarted (see previous problem). 
  82.  
  83.   Printer timeout errors are still occurring.  Most can be corrected 
  84. by setting the Printer Timeout Value to a value higher that 0 or by 
  85. setting it to 0 with the printer port number to 0.  Bad cables have 
  86. also been found to be the problem even if other programs are printing 
  87. okay. 
  88.  
  89.   If "Select pages to print" in the "Select Printing Option" menu is 
  90. used to print a single page from a range of pages then that page will 
  91. print the number of times these are pages in the total printout.  For 
  92. example if you choose page 2 to page 2 and then print a FGR that has 
  93. three pages, page 2 will be printed 3 times. 
  94.   
  95.   In range print of FGRs if the last MRIN in the range to print is 
  96. also the last MRIN in the database, the last FGR will not print.  
  97. Putting a comma after the last MRIN in the range seems to be the work-
  98. around. 
  99.  
  100.   Relationship calculator does not work correctly in instances of 
  101.  in-laws. 
  102.  
  103.   Searches or Focuses using just the wildcard (*) alone finds everyone 
  104. in the database and not just those with something in the field where 
  105. the wildcard was used. 
  106.  
  107.   Wildcard does not work in the ID field because it is a literal field 
  108. stored in the INDIV2.DAT file and not a name from NAME2.DAT file.

  111. GENEALOGICAL INFORMATION EXCHANGE
  112.

  115.   If focus results were saved and then some of the individuals in 
  116. those results deleted and if those focus results are used to create a 
  117. GEDCOM file, the "Selection Results" screen will display the total 
  118. number of records that were in the focus results.  The GEDCOM file can 
  119. still be created successfully.

  121.   GIE on a dual floppy 5 1/4 system had many display problems. 
  122.  
  123.   If while using PAF 2.2 temple submission option the statements 
  124. regarding whether the temple or the patron will provide proxies for 
  125. ordinances were answered with "N",  PAF 2.3 picks up this information 
  126. and asks for which ordinances the patron will proved proxies.  
  127. Deleting the GIEDEF.DAT file from the data directory corrects this 
  128. problem.
