This setup allows me to play DOOM over my Windows For Workgroups v3.11
network. The only requirement with these drivers are that you are using:
1) Windows For Workgroups 3.11
2) Ethernet network (BNC co-ax)
3) Intel EtherExpress 16 NICs
The EXP16ODI driver is specific to the Intel network card, if you have a
different network card, you will have to locate the card specific ODI driver
for your make/model of NIC.
Unzip the files in this ZIP into a directory on your hard drive, in my
configuration I use a directory called C:\NET.
Just check out the sample config.sys and autoexec.bat for the load order
of each driver. Once the LSL, EXP16, and IPX drivers have been loaded, change
to your DOOM directory and run SETUP. Select the Play network game option and
select your settings, you can leave the socket number at 0.
That'll do it, DOOM will pick up the IPX support and take over from there.
DOOM will start on the first PC and go into a network wait mode looking for
other players on the network, it will delay around 30 seconds or so. So start
all your workstations up together, select your network options and then hit
the <F10> on each station. They will see each other and then start the game.
That should do it, have fun!
