PERIODIC LIST OF "FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS"
in REC.ARTS.STARTREK.CURRENT (last updated 9 December 1993)
This posting is intended to cut down on the "often asked questions" that
seem to pop up every few months in the rec.arts.startrek.current newsgroup.
It is one of a number of periodic postings posted to r.a.s.*. For a full
list of informational postings, please read the "LIST OF PERIODIC POSTINGS"
article in rec.arts.startrek.misc. For a list of acronyms used in this
(and other) postings, please refer to the "ACRONYM LIST" found in
rec.arts.startrek.misc.
This FAQL is basically a list of questions that have been brought up and
discussed to death in rec.arts.startrek.current, and a lot of people would
be happy if they never resurfaced.

6) Upcoming DS9 episodes
===========================================================================
This entire article contains
***** S P O I L E R S *****
for upcoming episodes of TNG and DS9. If you don't want to be spoiled,
don't read this!
1) ========== UPCOMING TNG SEASON 7 EPISODES:
"Descent, Part II" (12/6/93 - 12/12/93): ===REPEAT=== Borg season opener
"Liaisons" (12/13/93 - 12/19/93): ===REPEAT=== Picard's kidnap
"Gambit, Part I" (12/20/93 - 12/26/93): ===REPEAT=== Riker/Picard mutiny
"Gambit, Part II" (12/27/93 - 1/3/94): ===REPEAT=== vulcan power weapon
"Interface" (1/4/94 - 1/10/94): ===REPEAT=== VR episode with Geordi's mom
"The Pegasus" (1/11/94 - 1/17/94): A Riker story with lots of Romulans.
We may also finally get the "official" answer to the question "Why doesn't
the Federation have a cloaking device?" Riker meets up with his first
captain (they don't get along) on the Pegasus (the ship he first served on
after graduating from SFA 12 years ago). Riker somehow ends up in the Brig
and injured. First appearance of a Romulan played by a black actor. LaVar
Burton directs. [This is listed as being aired in December, but will
probably be pushed ahead to January if Mike's schedules hold.]
"Homeward" (1/18/94 - 1/24/94): Worf episode. Worf's adoptive human
brother, Nikki, appears. He is some Federation cultural liaison officer
(an anthropological observer of a primitive culture) who violates the Prime
Directive by getting involved with a planet that is not part of the
Federation. He was only supposed to observe, but ended up getting involved
in their problems. Worf is surgically altered by Dr Crusher and is
supposed rescue/capture his brother on the planet. Somehow, Worf ends up
leading Nikki and the natives of the planet to safety. Guest stars include
Paul Sorvino (Cruising, Dick Tracy (1990), GoodFellas, Off the Wall, Oh
God, Reds, The Rocketeer, A Touch of Class, and Turk 182) as Niccolai
Rozhenko.
"Phantasms" (1/25/94 - 1/31/94): ===REPEAT=== Data's nightmare
"Sub Rosa" (2/1/94 - 2/7/94): Dr Crusher episode. Bev returns to the
terraform colony where her grandmother dies at the age of 102. We'll see
her old home and learn about her childhood. She falls in love with a
character not previously mentioned. Bev Crusher is possessed. This
episode is supposed to have some "racy" scene with Dr Crusher in a
revealing nightgown and is described as "not a family episode." Yeah.
Right. That's what they said about the "Troi nude" scene in the TNG
wormhole episode. Extraordinary sets. Directed by Jonathan Frakes. He
supposedly got some great acting out of Gates McFadden in this episode.
[I'll believe that when I see it. --ed]
"Lower Decks" (2/__/94 - 2/__/94): "Star Trek: Voyager" episode.
Potential ST:VOY characters are supposed to be introduced in this episode.
Patti Yasutake (Nurse Alyssa Ogawa) and the female Bajoran cadet (Cadet
Second Class (now an ensign) Sito played by Shannon Fill) that was
introduced in "First Duty" are supposed to spin-off over to the new series.
For half of the show, these junior officers will be playing poker with a
Vulcan and a human. For the other half of the show, four senior officers
will be playing poker. When privately asked at a 26-27 November 1993 New
York City Creation Convention, Moore and Braga denied the fact that
potential ST:VOY characters are appearing but admitted that Cadet Sito is
appearing in "Lower Decks". Filmed the last week of November.
[episode name unknown] (_/__/94 - _/__/94): Another Wes Crusher episode.
He'll have a bigger part than his cameo in "Parallels". Written by Ron
Moore. Marina Sirtis claimed at a 5 December 1993 Madison, WI Creation con
that she doesn't know anything about this Wil Wheaton appearance. [My
guess is that Wheaton will be in "Lower Decks", since his fellow classmate
Sito is in it. --ed]
[episode name unknown] (_/__/94 - _/__/94): Barclay will be back. Written
by Brannon Braga.
"Thine Own Self" (_/__/94 - _/__/94): Plot unknown. Filmed in early
December 1993.
[episode name unknown] (season seven finale) Two hours, but NOT a cliff-
hanger lead-in to the movie. Will probably set up the Voyager TV series.
It was mentioned at a Thanksgiving(US) 1993 Creation Con that they want to
get Q, since he was in the first TNG episode. It was mentioned at the
26-27 November 1993 New York City Creation Convention that Q *will* be in
it though it hasn't been written yet. Written by Ron Moore and Brandon
Braga.
===========================================================================
2) ========== MORE UPCOMING TNG TIDBITS
Whoopi has confirmed that she will continue to do TNG episodes AFTER her
statements on Arsenio. Apparently, TNG is the *only* thing she'll have to
do with Paramount these days. The only reason she's been seen so rarely is
her hectic schedule and doing charity work. Whoopi has approached the
producers about having a 600th birthday party for Guinan, where all her
children from around the galaxy will come together.
There is the possibility of Nichelle Nichols showing up as either Guinan's
mother or daughter, but nothing has been worked out yet.
3/6/92 issue of "Entertainment Weekly": Season six may have Robin
Williams, John Goodman, and Elliott Gould. Since season six has completed
filming, these actors will have to try to get in season seven.
At a 27 July 1992 convention, Doohan said he had never heard of plans for
Scotty to be in Deep Space Nine, but would be open-minded about being in
it. Ron Moore says (as far as he knows) the rumor is false.
A mid-March 1993 convention in Leicester, England reported that Adam Nimoy
(Leonard's son) will be directing another episode (not sure if TNG or DS9.
Marilyn Beck's 5 April 1993 Grapevine backs this up.
Science Consultant Naren Shanker said in May 1993 that they are planning to
have fun with "Data's dreams" in season seven.
In mid-July 1993 the rumors of famous guest stars (see entry for 3/6/92)
started popping up again. The 19 July 1993 PEOPLE column of the Cincinnati
Enquirer reported that Robin Williams may be "a guest on Star Trek: The
Next Generation the show's executive producer says". "Jason Alexander,
Dana Carvey and Christopher Lloyd have all expressed interest," Rick Berman
tells _TV Guide_. "I just had lunch with James Worthy of the L.A. Lakers,
who wants to be a Klingon." "We're trying to work something out with Robin
Williams, but we want to give him a substantial part, not a cameo," Berman
says. He says Lyle Lovett is "also an obsessive fan" and is also talking
about appearing on the show set on the starship Enterprise. The producer
said there may even be a part for Lovett's new bride, Julia Roberts.
(parts also taken from the press release sent to the 19 July 1993 Rocky
Mountain News).
14 August 1993: Michael Dorn said there will be an episode involving
Alexander and time travel.
Mid-August San Jose con: David Rossi, the Assistant to the Line Producer
of TNG reports that Sela *may* be back.
29 August 1993 New York City Creation con: Patrick Stewart said that the
Guinan/Picard relationship will be explored in an episode before this
season is over.
Early September 1993 reports from GEnie say that Troi will take her
commander's exam.
Thanksgiving(US) 1993 Creation con: Spot will have kittens (a reason for
the sex change) This was verified at a 26-27 November 1993 New York City
Creation Convention and was Jeri Taylor's idea. There is a major upcoming
Wesley episode (in addition to his cameo in Parallels). They're planning a big Keiko episode.
26-27 November 1993 New York City Creation Convention: Alexander is going
to be back. No Thomas Riker. No emotional chip for Data because Data
would be a boring character with the emotional chip. No more Borgs on
ST:TNG because of cost. No Captain's Yacht because of cost. No
'Conspiracy' aliens because the first season writers are no longer around.
No Mr Scott. No Ambassador Spock. No Dr McCoy. Because they are saving
their TNG appearances for the ST:TNG movie.
We may have a "few" episodes with Wes coming home for "spring break" in
season seven (Wil is at UCLA; his character Wes is attending Star Fleet
Academy). Science Consultant Naren Shanker said in May 1993 that there is
a Wes-oriented show in development for season seven. Lolita Fatjo
confirmed this at a 17 August 1993 con, but Michael Dorn contradicted it at
the same con. Mid-September 1993 reports from CompuServe say that Wes may
be back for a multi-part episode.
Mid-September 1993 reports from CompuServe say that Lt Riker be back in the
last season. My guess would be in the last episode to set up the new
series (if it indeed is a Lt Riker/Troi show).
September 1993: Barclay will make his fifth appearance on TNG sometime in
the first ten episodes of season seven.
September 1993: They are trying to find a story to bring back Lal.
September 1993: There will be a season seven story about Dr Noonian
Soong's wife. Data treats her like a mother.
29-31 October 1993 Honolulu Creation Con (thanks Eric): Tasha/Sela are
officially dead and won't be coming back. Troi/Riker are old news and
won't be getting back together but will remain good friends. They were
planning to follow up on the bugs from "Conspiracy", but at this con they
said they won't be coming back. The reason is that none of the original
writers are with the show anymore and nobody really knows what they were
planning to do with the hints they dropped at the end. They also hinted at
a possible Worf/Troi relationship and/or marriage. There will definitely
be a Q story this season.
5 December 1993 Madison, WI Creation con: Marina Sirtis told the audience
that Troi will get promoted to commander before the end of the season.
They are looking for scripts (GOOD ones) to bring back Barclay, Lwaxana,
Lore, and Q, but have apparently given up hope on bringing back Sela.
They are no longer thinking about a love interest between Bev and Picard.
Geordi MIGHT get married.
They are trying to find a good Lore story since Spiner loves playing the
character.
Levar Burton will be directing the 12th of season seven.
Frakes has directed six episodes of TNG: "The Offspring", "Reunion",
"Drumhead", and "Cause and Effect", "The Quality of Life", and "The Chase".
Apparently, TPTB are as impressed with his work as are the people in these
newsgroups. He will no doubt be given more episodes in season seven.
Gates McFadden wants to try her hand at directing. She will be given one
chance in the last season (to be filmed 10 January 1994). Brent Spiner was
offered the chance, but declined. He said at a 27 November 1993 New York
City Creation Convention that he *would* like to direct a non-TNG episode
(maybe DS9 or VOY?)
Stewart was given a second chance at directing as well. He directed "In
Theory", "Hero Worship", (not two of the better episodes) and "A Fistful of
Datas".
There were two Q episodes in development for season 5, but neither got to
the point where it could be filmed. Stillwell thinks they will both end up
on the screen next season, with the first one coming early in the season.
He denied the previous rumors about "Duelling Q's" and William Campbell,
saying that they had had no discussions with William Campbell about
appearing in a Q episode or any others.
Another Q episode under consideration involves Q duplicating the Enterprise
for some reason.
"The Rivals": A study of the impact of competition in Geordi and a rival
who renew their relationship while the Enterprise tries to get rid of an
alien plane (plague?).
"Q Me": Yet *another* Q episode! Guest star John DeLancie as Q. This
*may* just be the former title of "True Q".
"Duelling Qs": Q is back (sans Vash), and is dueling (in some sort of
Olympiad) with another member of the Q continuum, played by William
Campbell (who played Trelane in "Squire of Gothos"). They haven't
mentioned whether this means that Trelane was a member of the Q continuum
or if this is a separate character. Our Q uses Enterprise crew for his
team, and the other team is manned by a band of genius bodybuilders. Some
of the events that were to take place would be a race through an asteroid
field, a very bizzare boxing match in a triangular ring with a circular
booth in the center, an alien poker game, a kind of Spartacus-like last
conflict and an American Gladiators event. Page 24 of the 8/19/92 issue of
the UK newspaper "The Independent" said that Arnold Schwarzenegger has
signed on to be in an upcoming episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The October 1992 Cinefantastique backed this up. WPIX in New York reported
that Arnold would be on TNG as "an alien captain". Herb Wright (formerly
on the TNG writing staff) said that if they had gone through with "Dueling
Q's," he could have gotten Arnold to head the rival team gathered by the
female Q, stating that it would have brought a huge audience to that
episode. This one may be canceled due to cost overruns (Mostly due to
Nimoy's previous appearance, I'd guess). Whoopi Goldberg guest stars as
Guinan!! More recent info reports that Arnold would like to be a
background character in an episode.
"Q and Order" (if they decide to go with this idea): Q brings the
Enterprise (or some of its members) into the Q Continuum.
TNG will try to stay away from so many sequel episodes in the future and
will try to get back on the track of more science fiction and new stuff in
season 7. Stillwell realizes that they may have done a few too many
socially conscious episodes this season and not enough real science
fiction.
Michael Dorn may play another character without the Worf makeup.
It is very unlikely that William Shatner will appear in TNG, though he will
not say for sure if he will not appear on TNG. Script coordinator Lolita
Fatjo says there are no plans to feature Kirk in TNG.
No one will move up in rank, so we don't end up with a ship full of
captains like TOS did.
Starlight Effects (SFX) is working on a model of the 'Calypso', the
Captain's Yacht, in hopes of showing it to the Star Trek office and saying
"See, now you've got the model--now you can use it in a story." No word
yet on how the Star Trek office will react.
There is also a rumor that Bob Dylan is a Star Trek fan who asked to appear
on the show. The people at Paramount have never heard this. HOWEVER,
Eddie Rabbitt *is* a big Star Trek fan - both original and new. He can
apparently quote episode titles, so he's fairly serious. He is also a
friend of Johnathan Frakes, since (and I may be getting this wrong - my
notes aren't as clear as they should be) Frakes is a long-time friend of a
guy (I think his name is Tom Skyver, but I'm sure this is at least spelled
wrong, if not completely wrong) who has written a lot of stuff for Eddie.
Anyways, Eddie visited the ST:TNG lot recently (like a kid in a candy
store, I heard), and he and Frakes were joking about Eddie appearing in
ST:TNG as a holodeck simulation. It was *just* joking - there are no
actual plans to do this. I am pretty sure that this is the source of the
Bob Dylan rumor. (Sorry, I forgot whom to attribute this information to)
One of the characters from Tapestry will be back in season seven.
=============================================================================
3) ========== IS SEASON 7 THE LAST FOR TNG?
11-12 July 1992, Maryland convention: "NexGen actors have all signed on
for a seventh year -- at least most of them have. There will be a seventh
season, for sure. They were trying to get everybody to go for eight, but
they've so far resisted it. I have a feeling that if we're still in the
ratings the way we are now -- which is just incredible -- I can't see
Paramount letting it die. What really could happen is, when this group
graduates to movies, they might keep some of them on and fill in the other
parts with new people. You know, captains change, and other officers
change -- or they could go for a whole new cast and just keep on filling it
in. I think Paramount is now at the stage where they feel that it's the
vehicle that is the important thing -- and they're just going to keep it
going as long as you guys want it... Under these circumstances, the 7th
movie wouldn't happen for at least another three years. I can't see
Paramount letting it go that long. There was some talk -- again, it's only
a rumor -- about perhaps trying to do another one with the old cast.
Excuse the expression! They [the NexGen actors] work 8-9 months a year
now, and only get two and a half months off, which isn't enough time to do
a movie. And when you sell to syndication, those people buy 26 episodes;
you've got to make 'em 26 episodes. That's your contract and that's what
has to be delivered. You can't say, Well, fellas, we'll only give you 20
this year." --Majel
Early March 1993, Creation Con: Michael Dorn said that serious contract
signings for season seven wouldn't start until 1 June 1993.
27 March 1993, New Haven CT Creation Con: It was reported that Stewart has
signed for season seven, and that it will be the last unless a
letter-writing campaign at the end of 1993 encourages them to keep going.
March 1993, Canada Creation Con: Sirtis reported that there will probably
NOT be a eighth season of TNG.
Late April 1993, Toronto (?) convention: Shatner says TNG is rumored to
be up for two to three more seasons.
29 April 1993: Patrick Stewart mentioned on a British early morning
program that he was very hopeful of "at least one more season" of TNG.
Rumors have sprung up *again* that James Earl Jones (the voice of Darth
Vader) has been considered for TNG if they decide to continue to shoot more
seasons without Stewart. Jones has said he was actively considered for the
role of Ben Sisko in DS9, and rumors from a few years back said that
Paramount had planned to replace Stewart with Jones when Stewart was
thinking about leaving (but then Stewart quickly signed to avoid being
upstaged).
Science Consultant Naren Shanker said in May 1993 that "in all likelyhood",
season seven will be the last.
4 June 1993: Marina Sirtis reported at the Chicago Consumer Electronics
Show that season seven will definitely be the last one, but that the full
cast of regulars will be in it. Filming begins during the last week of
June 1993.
June 1993: The cast of TNG have signed 6-year contracts and have the
option of another year. They have signed the entire cast of regulars for
season seven. Several cast members have said that they would like to see a
season eight (and beyond), but Paramount has decided to go to TNG movies
rather than have the TV show with half the cast (or new cast members). Ron
Moore said in 1992 that he was betting on at least eight seasons. Frakes
mentioned that when they signed the contracts for season six (in 1992) that
the new contracts leave it open for an 8th and 9th season.
29 July 1993: "Daily Variety" had a front-page article that stated that TV
station programmers say that Paramount has confirmed in meetings that TNG
will end with 93/94 season. However, a Paramount spokesman would not
confirm the end of TNG.
29 July 1993: "Entertainment Tonight" mentioned that the studio said the
7th season was the last.
30 July 1993: Patrick Sewart seemed to be saying on an interview with
Larry King (radio) that season seven may not be the last. He may have just
been saying that it won't be the last appearance of the crew, as they will
be going into movies and guest spots on DS9, though.
September 1993: Berman has NOT confirmed that season 7 is the last. He
says he thinks so but stranger things have happened.
September 1993: McFadden reported at StarCon that everyone except Stewart
was under contract for an 8th TNG season, should there be one.
25 September 1993 Creation con: Frakes mentioned that there may be an 8th
season.
Early October 1993 TV Guide: Patrick Stewart said that there is always the
possibility of a Star Trek Season 8. Rick Berman said that TNG is pretty
much finished up after this season.
24 September 1993 "Variety": There is speculation that TNG may go to an
8th season if the next Star Trek spinoff won't be ready in time. This is
an unconfirmed rumor.
4 October 1993 "Variety" (page 7): "Buzz hears Paramount is rethinking its
plan to end the run of arguably its most lucrative creative asset, the
syndicated series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The original plan was
to make this seventh season the final year of the series, with hopes that
"Deep Space Nine" and another spinoff currently in the works could hold
Par's syndication dominance. But as visions of mergers dance in the heads
of Par execs, there seem to be more than a few voices urging the cast to
hang in for at least another season, and doing the movie during hiatus.
The entire cast was recently signed to two-year contracts. With the final
season's opener garnering record ratings, why kill off the golden goose?"
12 October 1993: NBC Tonight Show: Patrick Stewart said it hasn't been
decided if there will be an eigth season or not.
October 1993: Armin Shimmerman said at a Cleveland con that Rick Berman
mentioned over lunch that there would not be an 8th season of TNG.
29-31 October 1993: It was said at a Honolulu Creation Con that season
seven will be the last.
Late-October/early November 1993 Edmonton con: Frakes said that all the
actors have signed into a two year deal, this seventh season being the
first of those two years. Whether the second year is every put into
production is at the studios discretion, the actors have no say. It is
known though, that if the current owners have their way, there will be NO
eighth season. However, IF QVC ends up being the company that buys out
Paramount (they are the "hostile takeover" company) they WILL produce
another season, other buyers have not expressed any interest in doing that.
3-5 November 1993: Gannett News Service reports that Executive producer
Rick Berman says the final TNG episode will be a 2-hour goodbye for the
crew.
Late-November 1993: Richard Arnold confirmed that this will be the last
season of TNG, and "Star Trek Voyager" will replace the show (Sito makes an
appearance on TNG to spin off Voyager).
27 November 1993: Majel Barrett Roddenberry confirmed at a NYC Creation
con that there will NOT be a 8th season. It would not be possible with the
release date for the TNG movie, and they already made an agreement with the
theaters for the end of 1994.
==============================================================================
4) ========== INSIDE TREK (WEEKLY SYNDICATED STAR TREK NEWSPAPER COLUMN)
Beginning 9 March 1993, "Inside Trek", a syndicated, weekly newspaper
column, will add to the TV series, the six movies, the more than 100
novels, the 500 fanzines, and the 3000 Trekker conventions a year, all
inspired by the original TV show. The column will feature interviews with
the stars, trivia (e.g.: "What do the letters IDIC stand for? Infinite
Diversity in Infinite Combinations"), plus plotlines of current episodes of
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine". So far several
newspapers have committed to the column, which is produced by The New York
Times Syndicate. The Times, however, will not carry it.
The following papers have printed the column:
-- Boston Herald
-- Chicago Tribune
-- Detroit Free Press
-- Palm Beach Post (West Palm Beach)
-- Toronto Sun Newspaper - weekly TV Guide
-- Washington Times
The following papers have received the column but have not printed it yet:
-- Baltimore Sun
-- Washington Post
============================================================================
5) ========== DEEP SPACE NINE
========== LOCATION: The action takes place on a space station that was
reclaimed from Cardassians (next to a stable wormhole). Berman says it was
a Ferengi-built station in orbit around the planet Bajoran (Ro Larren's
home world). The studio has already sunk three million dollars into the
sets alone, not to mention $12 million for the pilot episode, so Paramount
is obviously betting big on DS9 to be a success. Six soundstages are now
devoted to TNG and DS9 at Paramount. The station itself is an enormous
ring structure, seeming quite thin (though, of course, it's huge compared
to a starship). The central hub rises up in a vaguely cone-like structure,
the middle of which is the Promenade. Near the top is the Ops Control
Center, and at the very top of the hub is the communications cluster. Four
pairs of gigantic "pylons" stretch out from the compass points of the ring,
one above and one below the plane of the ring. The pylons are for large
starships to dock at, and they are shaped similarly to support structures
seen in the interior sets (essentially a large, tapering triangle). At the
widest point of the hub, just above the support beams that connect the ring
to the hub, there are "landing pads" for the Runabout class vehicles.
Piller said that one of the most impressive FX shots of the entire series
will feature the Runabout vessel rising to the surface of the hub and then
taking off from the station. On the set of the Ops Control Center,
there'll be a transporter pad right there instead of a separate transporter
room. Armin Shimerman reported on 7 March 1993 that there would soon be
some episodes taking place on planets in the Gamma Quadrant (the other side
of the wormhole). It takes sixty years at warp nine to travel there
without the wormhole (according to the DS9 bible).
"In the first episode, we learn that the worm hole has been artificially
created by a species of aliens that do not live in the same space-time
continuum as we do. Thus, we encounter them unexpectedly within the worm
hole itself. They have been sending out orb-like probes from the worm
hole, one orb every century for a thousand years, seeking contact with
other life forms. [...] The mysterious orbs that have arrived each century
are among the fundamental sacraments of the Bajoran religion.." --DS9
Bible
========== CHARACTERS: It has some of the same actors playing roles as
TNG. It has mostly new actors since they're cheaper. They all have
contracts for two seasons of DS9. After two years, they'll decide to
either make more episodes (if it is a hit and the actors don't ask for
*too* much money) or do yet *another* ship-based series. Nana Visitor
reported in early 1993 that all cast members have seven year contracts, and
"famous" actors wouldn't want to be tied down for that length of time.
There are about 400 people on the space station, according to O'Brien. The
DS9 Bible says that by episode three, there will be about fifty Starfleet
officers and crewmen stationed there and on any given day there might be
anywhere from 10 to 300 visitors to DS9, as ships come through with
foreigners, scientists, merchants, and spies.
See the "NAMES" FAQL in rec.arts.startrek.misc for a more detailed
description of the characters.
========== RUMORS OF OTHER CHARACTERS:
Guinan will make occasional appearances on both TNG and DS9. TV Guide
reported that Guinan's son would be locked up in a jail on DS9, explaining
her visits. Stillwell didn't know anything about this Guinan's son bit,
but also admitted that TV Guide is notorious for getting true information
out even faster than the people producing these shows!
Cameos will be made occasionally by the TNG crew. Stewart was in the first
episode as Captain Picard. The main enemies will be the Cardassians.
Mike Dorn said at a 7 March 1993 Boston con that he may show up on an
episode of DS9 (but as a human, not as Worf) after TNG is off the air.
22 November 1993: Rene Auberjonois stated ,on the Conan O'Brien show that
the rat may be a "recurring character". He transformed into a rat in the
Trilogy and in a first season episode. This may have been a joke, but who
knows.

"Rivals" (1/2/94 - 1/8/94): plot unknown, though it may be a re-write of
the TNG episode with Geordi (see section 2 for description). Quark gets
competition from an owner of a new gambling establishment on ST:DSN. This
competition has a new game with him. O'Brien and Bashir play that space
racketball game that was seen on ST:TNG "Suddenly Human".
"Sore Loser" (?/?/94 - ?/?/94): Plot unknown. Directed by David Carson.
"[The] Alternate" (?/?/94 - ?/?/94): Odo episode. We find out what
happens to Odo when he should be in his bucket. Seems that he turns into
various monsters. Guest stars include J B Sloyan (Setal/Jarok in "The
Defector" [anyone know if this is the same as James Sloyan (Xanadu, Charlie
Wayne on "Oh Madeline", Dr Sam Lanagan on "Westside Medical", and Robert
Butler on "Murder, She Wrote")? --ed]). Directed by David Carson.
"[episode name unknown]" (?/?/94 - ?/?/94): Lwaxana returns for her
seasonal appearance.
"[episode name unknown]" (?/?/94 - ?/?/94): Odo locks up Guinan's son.
Guest star Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan. This might be changed to "Guinan's
son is a bartender at Quark's".
"[episode name unknown]" (?/?/94 - ?/?/94): Geordi and Riker visit DS9.
"[episode name unknown]" (?/?/94 - ?/?/94): Kira falls in love.
They plan to do two-parters and three-part episodes, and future seasons may
end with cliff-hangers. Season Two should have 25 episodes.
The mid-September issue of the Star Trek Fan Club Magazine says (from Rick
Berman and Michael Piller) we have the following to look forward to in
DS9's second season: 1) Frank Langella will guest star in three episodes.
2) Louise Fletcher is signed up for another, as well as Philip Anglim and
Richard Beymer who will be in the 3-part season opener. 3) They will be
exploring the character of Dax more. In one episode, a character attempts
to kidnap her symbiont and plant it in himself. 4) There is a story about
a character who needs to be in a wheelchair. 5) A romance in the works for
Dr Bashir. 6) A Ferngi/Yentl-type story. 7) Odo will continue to explore
the "lost child syndrome" and 8) some interesting story lines for Kira and
futher development between Sisko and his son. Some set changes will also
be seen this year and people will get off the space station more.
Wil Wheaton *might* appear in a DSN story as Wesley Crusher.
The prime directive will be an issue is a series of DS9 episodes where they
encounter "The Dominion Race", which has a prime directive of its own.
According to Armin Shimmerman, his wife will play a part as Kira's boss.
