  2. QUICK START
  3. -----------
  4.  
  5.         Please get copies of The Wall Street Tracker, The Mutual Fund Tracker,
  6. and The Tracker Utilities.  If you use Windows, and decide to run the Tracker
  7. programs from inside the Windows Program Manager, then consult the Windows
  8. documentation on how to install the PIF and ICO files needed for Windows 3.0.
  9. If you use Windows 3.1, install the TRACKER.GRP file.  These Window support
  10. files are supplied with the programs.
  11.  
  12.         The Wall Street Tracker and The Mutual Fund Tracker data sets can
  13. be automatically updated with The Quote Tracker.  It will convert quotes
  14. downloaded from CompuServe, America Online, or Prodigy and is Stock-Watch
  15. compatible.  If you get your stock/fund quotes from a different source, or
  16. if you have existing quote histories from another program, we can probably
  17. write a custom version of The Quote Tracker for you.  If you want to save
  18. time updating your data, then read the QUOTRACK.KIT file found on your disks.
  19. It contains more information and you may view or print it with any text editor
  20. or word processor.
  21.  
  22.          To get started, insert The Wall Street Tracker disk in your floppy
  23. drive.  If you are using Windows, MS-DOS Shell, or another type of menu system,
  24. then consult its documentation on how to INSTALL OTHER PROGRAMS, or on how to
  25. DROP, SHELL, EXIT, or GO TO DOS.  At the DOS prompt, change to the floppy drive
  26. that contains the disk.  For example, type at the DOS prompt:  A:  and press
  27. [ENTER] to change to drive A:\.  If you have a printer please turn it on now so
  28. that you can print some important information and forms.  With The Wall Street
  29. Tracker disk in your floppy drive, type at the DOS prompt:  PRINTWST  and press
  30. [ENTER].  If you have The Mutual Fund Tracker disk inserted, type:  PRINTMFT
  31. and press [ENTER].  The documentation for each program is found in an
  32. executable program.  Since you have The Wall Street Tracker disk, in your
  33. floppy drive, type at the DOS prompt:  WSTDOC  and press [ENTER].  This command
  34. allows you to read or print The Wall Street Tracker documentation.  For The
  35. Mutual Fund Tracker it's MFTDOC.  Each program's documentation goes into detail
  36. about its functions and use.  We strongly recommend you review it before
  37. installing the software.  Also remember, both programs use the same user
  38. interface.  As you learn how to use one, you learn to use both.  The programs
  39. you received, will not save any added data, until they have been registered.
  40.  
  41.         After you have reviewed the documentation, you will need to install
  42. the software onto your computer.  To do this type:  WSTINST  for The Wall
  43. Street Tracker, or  MFTINST  for The Mutual Fund Tracker, and press [ENTER].
  44. You will be asked a few questions and prompted to enter information that will
  45. allow the software to preform its best on your computer.

  47.         Check out The Tracker Utilities too!  There is a file on The Tracker
  48. Utilities disk named READ.ME.  Please read this file before doing anything else
  49. with The Tracker Utilities.  The READ.ME file may be viewed or printed with any
  50. text editor or word processor.

  52.         After you have reviewed the READ.ME file, please look for the GRAPH.EXE
  53. archive found on the disk.  It contains The Graph Tracker.  To unarchive The
  54. Graph Tracker program, type at the DOS prompt:  GRAPH  and press [ENTER].  This
  55. will unarchive a few files onto your disk.  The Graph Tracker documentation is
  56. in the GRAPHDOC.EXE program.  We strongly recommend you review it before
  57. installing the software.

  66.         Read or Print the FOLLOWED.STK file for a complete list of all stocks
  67. tracked and available in the up-to-date data files.  The up-to-date data files
  68. are available for download, by subscription, on Keith's Little Software Shop.

  74.         The format of the price history file has changed.  The data file
  75. capacity in Version 7.0 has been increased to five years.  Therefore, if
  76. you decide to upgrade to the new version from prior versions, you will need
  77. to convert and update your existing data files.  There is a program named
  78. WST52-70.EXE that will do the job for you.  It is included in the self-
  79. extracting archive named, CONVERT.EXE, which is distributed with The Tracker
  80. Utilities.

  82.         The Wall Street Tracker documentation is in a hyper-text type
  83. executable file.  To read or print the documentation, type:  WSTDOC  at the
  84. DOS prompt and press [ENTER].  If possible, we recommend that you print and
  85. read the documentation.

  87.         Read the file named THEFACTS.TXT.  It includes some interesting
  88. facts about The Tracker Programs.  If you use Prodigy, CompuServe, America
  89. Online, or Stock-Watch read the QUOTRACK.KIT file.  They may be printed or
  90. read with any word processor or text editor.

  108.         The EXE archives, listed above, are self-extracting and you need no
  109. other software to unarchive the program.

  111.         The latest version of each Tracker Program can always be found on
  112. Keith's Little Software Shop in Austin, Texas.  The BBS has two nodes and the
  113. phone numbers are 512-858-7564 or 512-894-0383.  The files listed above are
  114. FREE for the downloading and may be downloaded without validation.  All phone
  115. numbers support standard rates from 300 to 2400 baud.  The first phone number
  116. also supports baud rates up to 14,400, for users that have a V.32 or V.32bis
  117. protocol modem.  The second phone number also supports baud rates up to 14,400,
  118. for users with a USRobotics HST protocol modem.

  120.         The bulletin boards listed in the LOCATION.BBS file have also received
  121. the latest versions, as listed above, but with the ZIP extension.  They all
  122. support baud rates up to 9600 baud using a USRobotics HST.  The files were sent
  123. to them on or around January 1, 1994.  New versions of The Tracker Programs
  124. are not expected to be released for at least a year after that date.  If you
  125. have received the programs within that time frame, you can be assured that you
  126. have the latest version available.
