  2.                     Amendments (Twenty through Twenty-Six)

  4.  20th Amendment
  5.  
  6.  Section 1.  The terms of the President and Vice President shall
  7.              end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms
  8.              of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3rd day
  9.              of January, of the years in which such terms would
  10.              have ended if this article had not been ratified; and
  11.              the terms of their successors shall then begin.
  12.  Section 2.  The Congress shall assemble at least once in every
  13.              years, and such meeting shall begin at noon on the 3rd
  14.              day of January, unless they shall by law appoint a
  15.              different day.
  16.  Section 3.  If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of
  17.              the President, the President-elect shall have died,
  18.              the Vice President-elect shall become President. If a
  19.              President shall not have been chosen before the time
  20.              fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the
  21.              President-elect shall have failed to qualify, then the
  22.              Vice President-elect shall act as President until a
  23.              President shall have qualified; and the Congress may
  24.              by law provide for the case wherein neither a
  25.              President-elect nor a Vice President-elect shall have
  26.              qualified, declaring who shall then act as President,
  27.              or the manner in which one who is to act shall be
  28.              selected, and such person shall act accordingly until
  29.              a President or Vice President shall have qualified.
  30.  Section 4.  The Congress may by law provide for the case of the
  31.              death of any of the persons from whom the House of 
  32.              Representatives may choose a President whenever the
  33.              right of choice shall have devolved upon them, and
  34.              for the case of the death of any of the persons from
  35.              whom the Senate may choose a Vice President whenever
  36.              the right of choice shall have devolved upon them.
  37.  Section 5.  Sections 1 and 2 shall take effect on the 15th day of
  38.              October following the ratification of this article.
  39.  Section 6.  This article shall be inoperative unless it shall
  40.              have been ratified as an amendment to the
  41.              Constitution by three-fourths of the several States
  42.              within seven years from the date of its submission.

  44.  21st Amendment
  45.  
  46.  Section 1.  The eighteenth article of amendment to the 
  47.              Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.
  48.  
  49.  Section 2.  The transportation or importation into any State,
  50.              Territory, or possession of the United States for
  51.              delivery or use therein of intoxicating liquors, in
  52.              violation of the laws thereof, is hereby prohibited.
  53.  
  54.  Section 3.  This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have
  55.              been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by
  56.              conventions in the several States, as provided in the
  57.              Constitution, within seven years from the date of the
  58.              submission hereof to the States by the Congress.

  60.  22nd Amendment
  61.  
  62.  Section 1.  No person shall be elected to the office of the
  63.              President more than twice, and no person who has held
  64.              the office of President, or acted as President, for
  65.              more than two years of a term to which some other
  66.              person was elected President shall be elected to the
  67.              office of the President more than once.  But this
  68.              Article shall not apply to any person holding the
  69.              office of President when this Article was proposed by
  70.              the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may
  71.              be holding the office of President, or acting as
  72.              President, during the term within which his Article
  73.              becomes operative from holding the office of President
  74.              or acting as President during the remainder of such
  75.              term.
  76.  Section 2.  This article shall be inoperative unless it shall
  77.              have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution
  78.              by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several
  79.              states within seven years from the date of its
  80.              submission to the States by the Congress.

  82.  23rd Amendment
  83.  
  84.  Section 1.  The District constituting the seat of Government of
  85.              the United States shall appoint in such manner as the
  86.              Congress may direct: A number of electors of President
  87.              and Vice President equal to the whole number of
  88.              Senators and Representative in Congress to which the
  89.              District would be entitled if it were a State, but in
  90.              no event more than the least populous State; they
  91.              shall be considered, for the purposes of the election
  92.              of President and Vice President, to be electors 
  93.              appointed by a State; and they shall meet in the
  94.              District and perform such duties as provided by the
  95.              twelfth article of amendment.

  97.  Section 2.  The Congress shall have power to enforce this article
  98.              by appropriate legislation.

  100.  24th Amendment
  101.  
  102.  Section 1.  The right of citizens of the United States to vote in
  103.              any primary or other election for President or Vice
  104.              President, for electors for President or Vice
  105.              President, or for Senator or Representative in
  106.              Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the
  107.              United States or any State by reason of failure to
  108.              pay any <« poll tax »> or other tax.
  109.  
  110.  Section 2.  The Congress shall have power to enforce this article
  111.              by appropriate legislation.

  113.  25th Amendment
  114.  
  115.  Section 1.  In case of the removal of the President from office or
  116.              of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall
  117.              become President.
  118.  
  119.  Section 2.  Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice
  120.              President, the President shall nominate a Vice
  121.              President who shall take office upon confirmation by
  122.              a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

  124.  Section 3.  Whenever the President transmits to the <« President
  125.              pro tempore »> of the Senate and the Speakers of the
  126.              House of Representatives his written declaration that
  127.              he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his
  128.              office, and until he transmits to them a written
  129.              declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties
  130.              shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting
  131.              President.

  133.  Section 4.  Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either
  134.              the principal officers of the executive departments or
  135.              of such other body as Congress may by law provide, 
  136.              transmit to the <« President pro tempore »> of the 
  137.              Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives
  138.              their written declaration that the President is unable
  139.              to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the
  140.              Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and
  141.              duties of the office as Acting President.
  142.  
  143.              Thereafter, when the President transmits to the
  144.              <« President pro tempore »> of the Senate and the
  145.              Speaker of the House of Representatives his written
  146.              declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume
  147.              the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice
  148.              President and a majority of either the principal
  149.              officers of the executive department or of such other
  150.              body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within
  151.              four days to the <« President pro tempore »> of the
  152.              Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives
  153.              their written declaration that the President is unable
  154.              to discharge the powers and duties of his office. 
  155.              Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling
  156.              within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in
  157.              session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after
  158.              Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-
  159.              thirds vote of both Houses that the President is
  160.              unable to discharge the powers and duties of his
  161.              office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge
  162.              the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President
  163.              shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

  165.  26th Amendment
  166.  
  167.  Section 1.  The right of citizens of the United States, who are
  168.              eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be
  169.              denied or abridged by the United States or by any
  170.              State on account of age.
  171.  
  172.  Section 2.  The Congress shall have the power to enforce this
  173.              article by appropriate legislation.
