  1.                    ULTIMATE SPELLING TUTOR INSTRUCTIONS
  2.  
  3.     The Ultimate Spelling Tutor Software Package is a set of programs
  4. which allow you to use your voice to create custom spelling lists. These
  5. lists can contain any words in any language. It is great for quizzing
  6. your child on his/her weekly spelling words.
  7.  
  8.     The following are instructions on how to use the Ultimate Spelling
  9. Tutor Programs. The spelling tutor programs consist of two executable files,
  10. Teacher.exe and Student.bat.
  11.     The Teacher.exe program is used by the teacher or parent to enter in the
  12. weekly spelling words. To enter this program simply type --> Teacher
  13. Your computer will now show a display with several words across the top
  14. of the screen. These are valid commands for this program and can be selected
  15. by pressing the arrow keys. The currently selected command should be flashing.
  16. To enter the command select the command using the arrow key and press
  17. the ENTER (carrage return) key. These commands are as follows:

  19.     QUIT -- This command is used to exit out of the program
  20.  
  21.     ADD WORD -- This command is executed to add a word to your spelling list.
  22.                 The computer will first have you type in the spelling word. 
  23.                 Next it will ask you to speak the
  24.                 word in the microphone and finally speak a sentence using
  25.                 the word. REMEMBER, -- YOU PRESS ANY KEY TO START RECORDING
  26.                 AND THEN PRESS ANY KEY TO STOP RECORDING. It is also Important
  27.                 to remember to SPEAK IN A LOUD CLEAR VOICE DIRECTLY INTO
  28.                 THE MICROPHONE.

  30.     DELETE WORD -- This command allows you to remove any unwanted words
  31.                     from your spelling list by selecting them and pressing
  32.                     enter to remove them.
  33.  
  34.     REVIEW WORDS -- This command allows you to review all the
  35.                     words in your list, checking them for spelling
  36.                     and how they sound.

  38.     GET LIST -- This command allows you to read in a spelling list
  39.                 and change it using the DELETE WORD or ADD WORD commands.

  41.     SAVE LIST -- This command allows you to save you spelling list that you
  42.                 have created on disk. It is nice to name your lists after
  43.                 the childs name or a class name.

  46.     SETUP --    This command allows you to customize the voices by adding
  47.                 your own voice as the introduction. This command walks
  48.                 you through all the sentences that are used through out
  49.                 the student program. REMEMBER TO SPEAK CLEARLY INTO
  50.                  THE MICROPHONE WHILE RECORDING.

  52.     AN EXAMPLE LIST IS PROVIDED ON THIS DISK, THE NAME OF THE LIST IS 'TOM'

  55.     The second program provided is STUDENT.BAT, it uses the list you
  56. created to quiz the child. To execute this program type STUDENT [list name].
  57. To execute the example list type STUDENT TOM
  58.     This program is easy to use, it quizzes the child on the words in the list
  59. repeating the list again and again.    You can skip words or repeat words by
  60. using the up and down arrow keys.

  62. TO EXIT THIS PROGRAM PRESS THE ESC KEY ON THE KEYBOARD.

  64. If the student gets all of the words correct in a pass of the list the
  65. program will exit with the error code set to 1. This can be used to
  66. reward the student by allowing him/her to play a game. To do this
  67. feature modify the STUDENT.BAT file to include the name of the game as
  68. described in that file.

  70.     This program requires a Sound Blaster or compatable in an IBM based
  71. computer. It also requires a display that will run in EGA mode.
