MISSOURI
LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
The State of Missouri currently uses the driver's Social Security
Number as the license number. Previously, Missouri issued a sixteen
(16) character alpha-numeric drivers license number consisting of
one (1) alpha character followed by fifteen (15) numeric characters
with dash delimiters that break the number into a 4-4-4-4 grouping:
(Annn-nnnn-nnnn-nnnn)
Missouri used a unique soundex algorithm to generate a license
number from the driver's name, date of birth, and sex, breaking
this information into coded portions as follows:
Last name - first thirteen (13) characters
First name and middle initial - first thirteen (13) characters
Year of birth - last three (3) characters
Date of birth and sex - last three (3) characters
DOCUMENT:
The plastic photographic license is coated with 3M retroreflective
laminate. The driver's photograph appears in the lower right
corner, overlapped at the top by the state seal and the
administrator's signature. The Missouri State seal and a radiating
security pattern appear over the textual portion of the document,
and a reproduction of the state seal and "MISSOURI" appear within
the laminate.
TERM:
License is valid for three (3) years from the date of issue, though
some documents are valid for five (5) years.
MINORS:
Minor license shows "MINOR" stamped in large red phantom letters
across the textual portion of the document.
CDL:
Commercial drivers license is indicated by "CDL" on a green
headbar, or by "MISSOURI/COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE" printed in
white letters on a green sticker affixed to the license.
END MISSOURI
