ALBERTA
LICENSE NUMBER FORMAT:
The Province of Alberta issues a nine (9) (or fewer) digit numeric
drivers license number that may be delimited with a dash or dashes.
License numbers are sequentially issued, with no correlation
between licensee's personal identifiers and the license number:
(nnnnnn-nnn)
DOCUMENT:
The two part license consists of a plastic laminated photographic
portion manufactured by Polaroid and a paper portion either
manufactured by Canadian Bank Note or made of high quality security
paper manufactured by Data Business Forms. The driver's photograph
appears in the upper left corner of the photographic portion, with
it's right edge straddled by the black Alberta seal. Text
backgrounds and trim are in red on both the photographic and paper
portions of the license.
TERM:
General license is valid for five (5) years, expiring on the
driver's birthday. Probationary license is valid for two (2) years,
also expiring on the driver's birthday.
MINORS:
Minor's license shows no special indication of age. Check birth
date on the license document. First time drivers are issued a
Probationary license that shows "PROBATIONARY DRIVER" in black ink
on a white field.
CDL:
Inapplicable.
