  1. What the "H" file does

  4. The EXE file with the H in it is for compatibility with older versions of
  5. the Weathermation software. These versions had a display bug that kept
  6. them from displaying their first prompt. Since Weather Board relies on
  7. this prompt to know that it is connected to a Weathermation site, that was
  8. a big problem. I got around it by sending a dummy "helper" string immediately
  9. after connection. This causes the old Weathermation software to say "invalid
  10. request" and then display its prompt. From this point, everything proceeds
  11. normally.

  13. Note that this version of the program is not compatible with the newer version
  14. of Weathermation. It will give you messages about incomplete forecasts. So
  15. how do you know which Weather Board program to use? Easy - try the "standard"
  16. one first. If it connects, the says "Waiting for the Weathermation signature",
  17. then just sits there for five minutes, you're probably connected to the older
  18. Weathermation software. Edit the batch file to use the "H" file in this case.
  19. A message saying "Weathermation System Detected" should appear in less than a
  20. minute after the "Waiting for..." message above.

  22. Hopefully, all Weathermation sites will upgrade to the new software soon. Then
  23. I can put an end to this kludge. Aren't computers wonderfull??
