  1. Beta History (and what a long one it has been)

  7.         We're nearing the 5-year old point for this program (see date
  8.         at end of file).  Yipes....   Moving right along with the beta
  9.         test from hell, read on for solutions to long-standing problems
  10.         (or at least a step to solving them).
  11.  
  12.         ATTENTION DESQVIEW USERS:  I have installed new communications
  13.         drivers in this release.  It may or may not take care of the
  14.         lockup problems DV users were/are experiencing.  From the looks
  15.         of the documentation and implementation, the code is more mature
  16.         and flexible.  Please try this out and let me know the result.
  17.         Other non-DV users should check to make sure the program is
  18.         effectively using the comm ports as it has in the past. (ie: if
  19.         it is messing up, let me know).
  20.  
  21.         The infamous incorrect usage statistic message is being exposed.
  22.         In your TRC directory off your GTPATH directory, you will find a
  23.         new file being created called TRAKTIME.BUG.  This is a text file
  24.         that runs when you run TRACKER END (in GTLOGOFF.BAT) after each
  25.         person logs off.  In addition, debug information is shown on the
  26.         TRACKER END screen.  This should help me track down the problems
  27.         with this erratic time problem.  If you are having these
  28.         problems, you may be asked to send me your TRAKTIME.BUG file and
  29.         your GT.LOG file.

  31.         I have had reports of sysops saying that the header to the
  32.         weekly statistical usage report gets posted to the message base,
  33.         but no message is there.  Please check your SM= field in GT.CNF
  34.         (alternative would be to check the SYSOP message base setting
  35.         under ALT-I in GT) and make sure this message base is set
  36.         correctly -- this is also known as the SYSOP message base in GT.
  37.         Then, check in the ..\GTMSGS directory off of that message base
  38.         directory for any files ending in .MSG.  If you have them and
  39.         you are NOT running GT 15, then you need to run TCONFIG and
  40.         change "Version of GT" to 16, 17 or 18.  If you are running 15,
  41.         do the opposite thing, checking for files ending in .MES, and change
  42.         "Version of GT" from 16, 17 or 18 to 15 in TCONFIG.  If the
  43.         problem still occurs with GT 16+ (GT 15 should have no problems
  44.         here), let me know what the message number it created in the
  45.         header file.  This could point out logic flaws in my
  46.         message-creating routine and your input is very much needed.

  48.         In the last release, TCONFIG and TRACKER were updated to break
  49.         down the registration information from a 2-part (name, crc)
  50.         format to a 3-part format (name, serial number, crc).  There was
  51.         a little hiccup in the program that this version should solve.
  52.         However, it may only solve it for those running pre-2.02beta
  53.         software.  If you are using the previous 2.02beta release,
  54.         and are still having problems getting your registration
  55.         recognized, please read the UPGRADE.!!! file enclosed with this
  56.         release for guidance in solving the problem.

  58.         A new TSCAN.EXE comes with this release to maintain version
  59.         number consistency.  Any adjustments to this program have been
  60.         minor.  Please let me know if TSCAN has been equipped well
  61.         enough to handle the number of message/message bases you have
  62.         on your system.

  64.         Other small things were adjusted -- too tiny to mention.  Enjoy
  65.         the new release.  Please use E01/601 or netmail to forward not
  66.         only bug reports but suggestions on how the program is or should
  67.         be operating, new features to add, etc.   Thanks again for your

  74.         Enhanced weekly statistical report.  Added avg call length, and
  75.         made percentages a little more "precise" (probably too much).

  77.         New TSCAN.EXE can read GT 18 GTMDIR.BBS files.  Now parses the
  78.         message board, comments, and QWK mail features of GT 15 through
  79.         18.

  81.         New TCONFIG.EXE now allows you to set bulletins to "None" by
  82.         choosing the bulletin and deleting everything.  You should
  83.         either use all the bulletins or none of them.  You *might* be
  84.         able to use just "today" instead of both "today" and
  85.         "yesterday."  I've not tested this out...  Give it a shot.  Of
  86.         course, you cannot use "yesterday" without "today" bulletins.

  88.         There were some other smaller changes.

  90.         FUTURE:  I am looking into re-instating the mail scan after
  91.         logoff...  I basically need to know your opinions on how you'd
  92.         like this to operate in theory.  Also, I need to know if you
  93.         find TSCAN to be slow, fast, super-fast, or whatever.  It is
  94.         blazing on my computer, but I have a 486/33 with OS/2 and lots
  95.         of buffering.  Input is welcome.

  98.         happy to modify and add to the program.

  100.         This beta does not "expire," of course you should change over to
  101.         the release code when it does come out.

  109.         This version fixes the weekly statistical report, as far as I
  110.         can tell... Please be on the lookout for quirks.

  112.         It has a bunch of other fixes too.... Also, the documentation
  113.         has been updated and simplified.  It is very straightforward and
  114.         you should give it a lookover... The documentation is not
  115.         as beautiful as it could be, but I'm working on it... <grin>

  117.         Please read the UPGRADE.201 file for important instructions on
  118.         moving into the 2.XX series of Tracker from the previous 1.XX
  119.         series.

  121.         We skipped 2.00 because I had been projecting to get there at
  122.         some point and never did... Now we can shoot for 3.00 and have
  123.         lots of road in front of us without getting into gamma releases
  124.         of the 3rd degree and so forth.

  126.         I removed all of the 1.XX beta history.  It was irrelavent since
  127.         the program has changed so much.

  129.         All of the files have been updated....  Please look them over.
  130.         Remember, TSCAN can handle up to 300 message bases, and is used
  131.         to scan for mail in your nightly batch file.  DTRDROP is for use
  132.         with Tracker, but can be used standalone.  This program should
  133.         not be confused with DropUser, which takes the phone off the
  134.         hook after dropping the user.  DTRDROP just toggles the DTR
  135.         status to drop the user, then put the modem back into a ready
  136.         state.
