Introduction to Graffiti World
------------------------------
Graffiti World is probably a type of door that many of us who call BBSs
regularly are familiar with: a graffiti door. Such a door allows users to
enter one line messages for everyone to read.
This particular door has many features compared to other graffiti doors,
including:
- Ability for users to sign messages with aliases
- Ability for users to sign messages with date
- Users can choose color they want message to appear in
- ASCII/ANSI/RIP support
- RIP support includes local graphics, and, when being run locally,
mouse support
- Easy configuration with special program
- Utility to clean out messages according to their date
- Utility to clean out messages manually that contain unwanted text
- Only $5 to register
- Free registration if you are a registered user of another graffiti
door (see file OFFER.DOC for details)
The registered version also includes:
- File containing words you do not want users to use
- Split screen chat
Installing Graffiti World
-------------------------
* Getting Started
After putting all the files for this program in a separate directory, run the
program GWCONFIG.EXE. You will see a menu with several options. You probably
will want to choose options 1 and 2, which let you configure the program.
* Setting BBS options
EGA 43 line mode is not RIP EGA mode. It is simply compressed text mode.
If your BBS drop file type is different from the ones listed, you will need
to use a door drop file conversion program in the batch file to call Graffiti
World.
(Special note to DORINFOx.DEF users: pay CLOSE ATTENTION to the option
regarding if AVATAR is indicated in the drop file or not. It is very likely
that you will want this option set to yes. Even BBSs that do not support
AVATAR sometimes acknowledge AVATAR in their drop files.)
* Setting RIP options
RIP local mode means that will see EGA graphics on the local side. Do not
choose this if your BBS computer does not support EGA. It will not look very
nice.
"Disable RIP at exit" means that RIP will be shut down as the program exits.
With a non-RIP BBS, you may want this option. However, it is usually safe to
leave RIP on, because usually it will not hurt anything.
"Use mouse in RIP local mode" means that when the sysop is logging on locally
(NOT when a remote user is using the program) and RIP local is enabled, the
mouse will be used.
* Writing a batch file
You will have to create a batch file to enter the program. You must first
enter the directory Graffiti World is in, then run the program with
some or none of these parameters:
/Pxxx - Specifies a path to a drop file. For example: /PC:\RA
/L - runs the program in local mode
/S - runs the program in sysop quick-mode, where no name is asked
/Nxxx - Specifies what node to run the program. If this is not specified,
the computer assumes you are running on node 1.
Here is an example batch file:
@ECHO OFF
CD GWORLD
GWORLD /PC:\RA
CD\RA
Sysop Keys
----------
You can press ALT-C to enter chat mode with the user. If you are using the
registered version of the program you can configure several things with
GWCONFIG under option 4.
Split screen chat mode - If enabled, the screen will be divided into two
sections. The words you type will be on top, and the words the user types on
the bottom.
Sysop and user color - This is for both split screen and normal chat mode.
This changes the color of the user and sysop text.
Also, up arrow raises the user time by 2 minutes, and down arrow decreases
the user time by 2 minutes.
Sysop utilities
---------------
* CLEANER.EXE
This is a nightly maintenance utility that will delete old graffiti. We
recommend putting it in your BBS maintenance batch file. Run it like so:
CLEANER 8
This will clean out all graffiti 8 days old. The default is 10 days.
* MCLEAN.EXE
This lets the sysop manually clean out any graffiti he/she wants to. It also
allows to sysop to see the actual names of the people who wrote the messages
on the wall. Use it by choosing Next until you reach the message you want
to delete, then press D to delete it.
* V10TO20.EXE
Read V10TO20.DOC for details.
NINUSE.FLG
----------
In order to support multi-node setups, Graffiti World does not let more than
one user into the door at a time. This is done by renaming the file NINUSE.FLG
to be INUSE.FLG when the door is being used. If your computer crashes while
someone is using the door, you will have to rename INUSE.FLG to be NINUSE.FLG.
BADLIST.TXT
-----------
(for registered users only)
You can use option 4 on GWCONFIG to turn this option on or off. When it is
on, the computer will search for a file called BADLIST.TXT with a list
of words. These words will be prohibited as aliases and messages on the
wall. There is an example file included with the program.
Memory problems
---------------
Graffiti World requires 164424 bytes of memory to run, which is large in terms
of a door game. We recommend swapping your BBS to disk if you are having
problems. Also, setting the program to local RIP seems to help cure some
problems.
