BusiMod(STUNY) (tm) Mods
BM0406-x.ZIP
v2.5
04/06/94
Ok. A lot of people have asked about some of the support files in the BusiMod
(STUNY) version of RBBS (hereafter referred to as BM in this document).
This will be a quick attempt to explain some of these files.
xxxxN.DEF - Placed in the same directory as the Message file for a subboard.
This file is a semaphore file and does not have to contain
anything. RBBS/BM will only check to see if this file exists,
and, if it exists, disable the PEEK mod (which attempts to locate
a user name with as few as 2 characters). It's primary use is
to designate a net mail message base. Since most of the messages
in a net mail message base originates outside of the system,
there is no sense in looking for a user in the USER file who,
more than likely, doesn't exist. The existance of this file
will also disable the user from leaving a C)omment to SysOp
which will be broadcast throughout the net. The naming
convention is the same as that for the subboard configuration
file. ie: STUNYC.DEF is the configuration file for a net
subboard/conference named STUNY and STUNYN.DEF would be the
name of the semaphore file if you wanted to disable the PEEK
feature.
NOEXT.DEF - This is a plain ASCII listing of file extensions, one to a line,
which will not be permitted to be uploaded. This must reside
in the main RBBS directory. It will be searched for, and, if it
exists, the file extensions will be checked against the list.
If a file extension is found in the list, the system will refuse
the file and notify the caller that the type of file they are
attempting to upload is not accepted by the system. Good for
preventing file types you don't want, such as .GIF's, TXT, etc.
WELCOME.DEF - This is a SysOp configurable ASCII text file which will be sent
to a NEWUSER when they first log onto the BBS. RBBS/BM will
check to see if this file exists when a new user logs on. If it
exists, RBBS/BM will import this text file into the message base
as a personal message to the new users. This file must be in the
main RBBS directory.
RGXPIRE.HLP - This is a stock RBBS file. BUT... The BM version allows all
4 flavors of this file to be displayed. So you can now have
color and RIP versions of this file. This file is located in
your help directory.
RGXPIRD.HLP - Same as for RGXPIRE.HLP.
NEEDSYS.MSG - A SysOp configurable message to send to the user when the SysOp
must log someone off of the board to do whatever he/she needs
to do. This file must be located in the help directory. All
4 flavors (text, ASCII, color ANSI and RIP) are supported.
If this file does not exist, the system will send the default
RBBS message. This message is displayed when the SysOp hits the
"END" key.
KICKOFF.MSG - A SysOp configurable message to send to the user when you want
to "kick the user off" the system and discourage them from
calling back. RBBS will automatically lower the users security
level. All 4 flavors are supported. If this file does not
exist, the system will send the default RBBS message. This
message is displayed when the SysOp hits the "Ctrl-END" keys.
This file must be located in the help directory.
TWIT.MSG - This message is displayed when the SysOp wants to immediately
log someone off of the system. This file may contain
simulated line noise or whatever the SysOp wants displayed. If
this file does not exist, RBBS/BM will display simulated line
noise and immediately log the user off. Quick and easy.
This file must be located in the help directory. The keys to
activate this feature are the Ctrl-F1 key combination.
DNMSG.HLP - This is a SysOp configurable message to be sent when a user
prepares to download files. All 4 flavors are supported. This
file must be located in the help directory. RBBS/BM will skip
this display if this file does not exist.
UPMSG.HLP - This is a SysOp configurable message to be sent when a user
prepares to upload files. All 4 flavors are supported. This
file must be located in the help directory. RBBS/BM will skip
this display if this file does not exist.
XMSGx.HLP - A SysOp configurable message for each separate security level
(x represents the security level). This file will be displayed
when the user is logging off. All 4 flavors are supported.
RBBS/BM will skip this displaye if the file corresponding to the
users security level does not exist. These files must be located
in the help directory.
BADPASSW.HLP - File that will be displayed if a user fails to sign on because
of wrong password. See the doc by Doug Azzarito concerning this
file. This file must be in the help directory.
ANSIED.HLP - Help file for the full screen ANSI editor. See documentation
by Tom Collins for further info. This file must be in the help
directory.
CHATx.MNU - Menu for Internode Chat. This file must be in the main RBBS
directory. See documentation by John Morris in the RCHAT401.ZIP
file. Supports all 4 flavors (represented by x).
CHATHELP - Help file for the Internode Chat. This file must be in the main
RBBS directory. See documentation by John Morris in the
RCHAT401.ZIP file.
WELCO1x - Additional WELCOME files which will be displayed to users when
WELCO2x they log onto the system. RBBS/BM will rotate between the main
WELCO3x WELCOME message (as defined in CONFIG) and these three. All 4
flavors are supported (represented by x). Rotation will be
random, with only 1 file displayed at each log on. These files
must be in the RBBS text directory (where your menues, etc. are
located). If any of these 3 files do not exist, the system will
default to the main WELCOME message as defined in CONFIG.
LOGOFF.MNU - Menu shown at logoff allowing the user to bank time (if
available), comment to SysOp (if available), abort log off or
continue with log off. This file, if used, must be in the help
directory. If this file is missing, RBBS/BM will use the
default menu built in.
NODEx.TXT - File created when SysOp exports messages to disk using the "E"
option from a message base. The x is the node number. This file
is APPENDED to and will grow with each message. You should
remove from time to time if you no longer wish to save the
message(s) you exported. This file will be in your main RBBS
directory. A handy way to cross post messages. Export a message
using the "E" option, then after entering another conference
(subboard), you can "B" batch import the message into the new
message base.
****************************** [03-06-94] *********************************
FILEZ.DEF Semaphore file. Allows RBBS/BM to ask for file descriptions
AFTER the the file(s) are uploaded.
****************************** [04-06-94] *********************************
(NEW! for this version)
NOWUW.DEF Semaphore file to signal RBBS to NOT put in the "who uploaded"
a file. Must be located in the main RBBS directory.
FIDX.CFG (named according to the name you have entered in CONFIG param
#267 and must be located in the same directory) This is the
Wildcard configuration file enabling wildcard downloading.
See the WILDCARD.DOC file for more information
WILD.MNU Menu displayed to user when wildcard downloading enabled. Must
be located in your main RBBS directory.
CDRx.CFG (x represents node number) This is the CD-ROM configuration
file if enabling FULL CD-ROM support. See the RBBSCDR.DOC
file for further information.
FILESCAN.RIP RIP display file when listing files. Must be located in your
help directory.
