RELIGION IN THE LOST LANDS
Written By:
David A. Cooke
The Equilibrium of Beauty and Peace
Long Ago, Duss, the Greatest and Mightiest of all gods, created a force known
as the Equilibrium of Beauty and Peace. Duss rested the Equilibrium on the
Crest of the World and set it in motion. This force held all things in place
and maintained Akrinia as a smoothly functioning world. All things wicked,
created by Eeri and Folgore, would lead very short lives and the havoc they
created was easily contained. For many years, the peoples of Akrinia
prospered under The equilibrium of Beauty and Peace, living lives without
fear.
Folgore detested Duss for his actions. These actions left him and his younger
companion, Eeri, without much to do, so Folgore set out on a journey to find
the legendary Chalice of Armaniir. Searching high and low, across continent,
world and dimension, Folgore did come upon the Chalice of Armaniir. After
drinking from the Chalice, Folgore felt power, and summoned Eeri to partake
of the cup. The Chalice enhanced both of their abilities greatly, granting
them powers that were held by Armaniir.
Folgore and Eeri, together, headed toward the Crest of the World and with
a mighty swoop, Eeri's razor claws, now enhanced with the powers of the
Chalice, tore the Equilibrium to shreds!
With a jolt, Duss awoke from his mid-day rest and flew to the scene. Both
Folgore and Eeri knew Duss was still more powerful than they, so they fled
to their strongholds.
On seeing the Equilibrium of Beauty and Peace desecrated as such, Duss set
about to repairing it, but he knew it would never be as powerful as it was
before. Duss then called upon his followers on Akrinia to create orders
of men to protect their own lands against the hordes of evil, until Duss
could again create a new Equilibrium. His followers created several
orders, the most renowned is the Paladins of Duss.
Duss continues to work on repairing his Equilibrium, yet Folgore and Eeri
maintain a steady stream of Evil to confront him. The forces of Duss
are strong on Akrinia and attempt to rid their world of this Evil, yet
it never seems to end.
Alignment on Akrinia
Since the Greater gods are diametrically opposed, alignment on Akrinia
behaves in the same manner. If a man kills a good creature, it is an
Evil act, if he kills an evil creature, it is a good act.
A follower of Duss will most likely concentrate on ridding the world of
the horrible creatures and vile corrupted men that Folgore and Eeri
have created.
In the same respect, a follower of an Evil god will concentrate on ridding
the world of the law-abiding good folk who inhabit the towns and cities of
Akrinia.
Greater gods
DUSS
The god of Life, Loyalty, Truth and Honor. (Good)
Duss, the Mightiest of all gods is the patron deity of Paladins. Duss
holds dear all things good. All his followers must maintain a strictly
GOOD alignment. Any converts to Duss must have followed NO OTHER god
previous, as Duss finds loyalty to be the strongest good qualities.
Duss is pictured as a large man with long snow white hair and a beard,
wielding a flaming greatsword. His largest temple resides in the
Paladin's Tower in the southern part of NewMar, just north of the
Barrens.
FOLGORE
The god of Death. (Evil)
Before the finding of the Chalice of Armaniir, Folgore was a minor god.
With his discovery, he ascended to challenge Duss as the mightiest. All
followers of Folgore must maintain an EVIL alignment and create havoc to
the lands that Duss rules.
Folgore is pictured as a large jet black muscular man. His eyes flame
with a blue fire, and he wields a giant black battle axe. His symbol is
a black background with a red insignia in the center. The insignia is
that of a crushed human skull.
Folgore does not hold ANY known temples.
EERI
The god of Fear and Darkness. (Evil)
Eeri was a minor god, as Folgore was, and ascended by drinking of the
Chalice of Armaniir. Although he is not as powerful as Folgore is, he
holds a greater presence on the continent. All followers of Eeri
must maintain an EVIL alignment and create havoc on Akrinia.
Eeri is a large shadowy bird-like creature made of a black mist. His
evil eyes are those of shiny black onyx with a small speck of yellow in
the center. The only other distinguishing feature are the large
razor sharp steel claws affixed to Eeri's legs. Most of his attacks
are from above, a swooping attack with a mighty slash of his razor
sharp talons. The symbol of Eeri is a black background with a picture
of a set of talons, set in silver color.
Eeri holds a few temples above ground, the most notable being the temple
on the eastern end of Dim Lane, in southern NewMar.
Minor gods
CYRILL
The god of Emotion. (Neutral)
Cyrill is not a very popular god to follow on the continent of Akrinia.
Unlike other gods, Cyrill does not cast many miracles. His blessings
are more often in private with his followers. For this reason, he
does not have many temples. In fact, there is no temple to Cyrill in
the town of NewMar.
Cyrill is not represented as a creature. Instead, his symbol is a giant
Akrinian Dragon's heart.
GELYSSA
The goddess of Love, Beauty and Nature. (Neutral)
Gelyssa is always shown as a shapely long red haired nude woman. Her
beauty is unsurpassed by any other creature known to exist. Her
followers are also all very beautiful and usually of the female gender.
Gelyssa is very picky about her followers, her followers must ALL meet
up to her standards of beauty, or they will not be allowed to join the
ranks of her followers. Her more pious followers are granted great
gifts of natural magic.
Gelyssa has temples located in many rural areas throughout the
continent. Her following of men and women usually hold nature more
dear to themselves than they hold human life; this is not always true,
though.
AKRINIA
The patron of Explorers and Wanderers. (Good)
Akrinia was not always a god and some believe he is still not one. The
basis of his following does not seem the fact of his godhood, yet
that he inspires those who follow him.
Akrinia was the founder of the continent, which was named Akrinia
after him. Anyone who decides it is their calling in life to travel
and wander the lands usually prays to Akrinia to give them guidance and
help on their journeys. Many devoted followers have sworn that in times
of dire need, without warning, Akrinia has helped them out of a pinch!
Although Akrinia has more temples and more of a following than any
other god, his miracles are much fewer. In fact, not many have seen
miracles performed at a temple of Akrinia. Instead, these temples have
good surgeons who help the followers of Akrinia. The priests of
Akrinia simply proclaim that this is the will of Akrinia in action.
