  2. Game Objective and Background
  3.  
  4. The War
  5. -------
  6.       It happened in the early 21st century. Nobody is sure actually when
  7. as most recorded history was lost at that point. Nobody is sure who started
  8. it, or what the reasons were, but one thing is for sure, the world was made
  9. very aware of the possibilities of nuclear warfare.
  10.       The estimated time is somewhere between 2001-2005 that the war
  11. occurred. Hundreds, if not thousands, of nuclear missiles stormed through
  12. the atmosphere. Their targets: Population centers, military outposts, and
  13. governmental facilities.
  14.       The effects were greater than had been previously theorized. Great
  15. blast waves levelled entire cities. All unprotected crops and livestock
  16. perished. Those who didn't die of the initial attack were killed off by
  17. starvation or nuclear contamination.
  18.  
  19. Sacre Base
  20. ----------
  21.       There was, however, at least one establishment that survived. A small
  22. nuclear fallout shelter about 50 miles out from Tucson, Arizona. At the
  23. first sighting of the nuclear clouds, the doors were sealed and the base
  24. relied on its self-supporting supplies.
  25.       After about ten years, when internal supplies became scarce, it was
  26. necessary to explore the outside world. The first explorations were lead
  27. by Commander Defs Sacre, a survivalist who helped to found the shelter
  28. before the war.
  29.       Sacre was able to locate supplies necessary to sustain life in the
  30. shelter for many years to come. Sacre also located a pre-war weapons
  31. laboratory, Terra Labs. At Terra Labs, Sacre and his men were able to develop
  32. advanced energy weapons - phasers, electroblades, etc.
  33.       With these weapons, Defs Sacre upgraded the small, fragile nuclear
  34. shelter into a full-fledged military outpost. In honor of his bravery, the
  35. base was named "Sacre Base".
  36.  
  37. Nuclear Contamination
  38. ---------------------
  39.       As a result of the great war, vast amounts of nuclear radiation were
  40. released into the atmosphere. This radiation, in turn, affected the
  41. environment in ways never before imagined. Peaceful animals were mutated
  42. into hideous beasts; Humans were transformed into a disorganized mass of
  43. criminals. Law and order completely collapsed. It was thought that all
  44. hope of saving the earth would be lost.
  45.  
  46. The PuriTron Device
  47. -------------------
  48.       In the year 2022, scientists at Terra Labs developed a device known
  49. as the PuriTron. This device would be capable of removing the radioactive
  50. contaminants from several thousand cubic feet of air per day.
  51.       At last, it seemed that there was finally a solution to the world's
  52. problems. The PuriTron would clean the radiation out of the atmosphere. The
  53. radioactive mutations then would cease, and organized government could
  54. be established. Sacre base was very anxious to see the puritron put into
  55. action and ordered its transportation immediately.
  56.       An armed caravan left Terra Labs later that year to transport the
  57. PuriTron to Sacre Base where it could be installed and operated. The
  58. situation was perfect. Too Perfect. About half way through the journey, the
  59. caravan was attacked by a fierce band of female warriors known as the
  60. Black Widows.
  61.       The party was overwhelmed by the attack. The Black Widows had enhanced
  62. weapons far superior to that of the caravan. The battle was devastating and
  63. only a handful of men were able to escape. The PuriTron device, however, was
  64. lost.
  65.       From intelligence gathering operations, it has been determined that the
  66. Black Widows split the PuriTron into at least five separate components which
  67. they then hide in separate locations throughout the wasteland.
  68.  
  69. The Quest
  70. ---------
  71.       Your quest, as a soldier stationed at Sacre Base, is to locate these
  72. lost parts of the PuriTron and return them to Sacre Base where they may
  73. be assembled and activated. The fate of the world is in your hands.
  74.  
  75. PuriTron Device Parts
  76. ---------------------
  77.       The following parts are required for the assembly and operation of the
  78.   PuriTron device. Sacre Base will pay generously for their return.
  79.  
  80.       RAD EXTRACT
  81.  
  82.           The Radiation extractor is a device capable of collecting radiation
  83.           from contaminated materials. The radiation is then collected and
  84.           concentrated into the storage vessel. Non-radiated air is sent
  85.           to the recycler for recycling.
  86.  
  87.       STORAGE VESSEL
  88.  
  89.           The storage vessel is a special lead cylinder capable of storing
  90.           the concentrated radiation in a safe, leak proof environment.
  91.  
  92.       FILTRON
  93.  
  94.           The Filtron is a energy-enhanced filtration unit that removes large
  95.           particles such as soot, sand, etc from the air. These debris are
  96.           then sent to the RAD EXTRACT for decontamination. Clean air is
  97.           sent to the VENT for return to the atmosphere.
  98.  
  99.       CIRCULATOR
  100.  
  101.           A large atmospheric collector. It collects air from the atmosphere
  102.           and sends it to the FILTRON for processing.
  103.  
  104.       NOVA CELL
  105.  
  106.           A power cell containing stored solar energy. This energy is used to
  107.           power the above equipment.
  108.  
  109.       VENT
  110.  
  111.           A high efficiency output device designed to return clean air back
  112.           to the environment without creating any disturbance.
  113.  
  114.       RECYCLER
  115.  
  116.           Takes all particulate debris (dirt, soot, plastics, etc) and
  117.           converts it to a plastic-like material which may be used for
  118.           construction, manufacturing, etc.
  119.

  148. Locating The PuriTron Parts
  149. ---------------------------
  150.       Locating the lost PuriTron parts will not be easy; We have absolutely
  151.   no data as to the parts' location. You may have to rely on sources your meet
  152.   out in the wasteland to reveal the necessary information.
  153.
