  1.   Congratulations on your selection of the new GS-224 Laptop
  2.  
  3.   You will it the finest laptop built since the collapse of civilization.
  4. Of course, since its the only laptop produced since then, you may be
  5. confused with its operation.  Here are some guidelines to get you started.
  6.  
  7. RUNNING PROGRAMS
  8.  
  9.   You will find that several programs are already installed on your laptop.
  10. To activate any of them, or those you add later, merely type the name of
  11. the file (without the .COM, .EXE, or .BAT that you find at the end of the
  12. name).  It could not be simpler.  The GS-224 will run a variety of
  13. programs, including text editors, games, and various situation analysis
  14. utilities in its roomy 640k (approximately 640 thousand characters) of
  15. memory.  Most of these will explain their uses when you run them.

  17. PRE-INSTALLED SYSTEM INFORMATION UTILITIES
  18.  
  19.   Three of the programs already in your laptop give you
  20.   information on your system.  They are:
  21.     CHKDSK Explains how much memory and space you have available
  22.             and used on your laptop, and reports any problems.
  23.     DIR    This IMPORTANT program lists all the other programs on
  24.             your GS-224 and some information about them.
  25.     VER    Tells you the version of DOS (what allows you to run
  26.             the programs in the first place) your laptop uses.

  28. ADDING PROGRAMS TO YOUR LAPTOP
  29.  
  30.   We know you didn't buy a laptop so you could run its diagnostic programs:
  31. You either have a ROM disk, or plan on buying one in the near future.  When
  32. you have your new ROM program, merely run COPY in your laptop.  It will
  33. then ask you for what inventory slot you are carrying the ROM in, and if
  34. you type ?, will display a list of your complete inventory.  Once you
  35. select a ROM, the program from it will be loaded into your laptop's roomy
  36. 80 Megabyte (about 80 million characters) hard drive, the ROM will be
  37. destroyed to prevent illegal copying, and in the future you can run the
  38. program just like any of the pre-installed software.  Hitting the enter key
  39. without a selection will abort COPY.

  41. EXITING THE LAPTOP
  42.  
  43.   When you are finished using your GS-224 Laptop, merely type the name
  44. EXIT.  This will run a program that does some minor maintenance and parks
  45. your hard drive (making it so you can travel through even the bumpiest
  46. terrain without damaging any information on the drive).  You will then
  47. immediately be able to continue your travels.

  49. COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
  50.  
  51.   Some laptop programs are known to accept command line parameters. These
  52. are options that are specified on the command line after the name of
  53. the command you are executing. For example, to execute the "cstats"
  54. program with the "/invall" parameter, you would type "cstats /invall".

  56.   Known laptop command with command line parameters:

  58.      COPY:   <blank>       asks for which rom to copy
  59.              "/INVALL"     copies all roms in inventory
  60.              "/INVx"       copies rom from inventory slot #x (x is a number)
  61.  
  62.      CSTATS: <blank>       combat stats summary report
  63.              "/INVALL"     do weapons profile of all weapons in inventory
  64.              "/INVx"       do weapons profile for inventory #x
  65.              "/ITEMALL"    do weapons profile of all weapons at current
  66.                            wastelands location.
  67.              "/ITEMx"      do weapons profile of item #x at current wastelands
  68.                            location.
  69.              "/UNIAMMO"    Shows Uni-Ammo requirements of SR and LR weapons.

  71.      EMWARP: "/ANCHOR"     Establish anchor point at current location
  72.              "/ANCHORHOME" Reset anchor point to Sacre Base
  73.
