  2.                         bhHow to Play chDomain Poker
  3.  
  4.    chDomain Poker is a single/multi-player online game written exclusively
  5. for Synchronet BBS systems, game play is the same as playing an actual game
  6. of Draw Poker, if you don't know how to play draw poker then read on, otherwise
  7. you can probably skip these instructions.
  8.  
  9.    In this game of poker (unless the SysOp of this BBS has disallowed it) all
  10. bets are made in credits (rather than money or chips as in an actual game),
  11. each table in the game has a minimum number of credits required to play the
  12. game, as well as a table and bet limit (this is done so that everyone can have
  13. fun playing the game, rather than just the people with an enormous amount of
  14. credits).

  16.    Game play is as follows:

  18.         Note: The word "clockwise" used in these instructions refers to
  19.         the order of players from the first one who entered to the last.
  20.  
  21.         Before the deal, each player must put an amount of money into the pot
  22. (called the ANTE), the dealer then deals out 5 cards to each player one at a
  23. time in a "clockwise" order (the ante in Domain Poker is 10% of the allowable
  24. bet).  After the cards have been dealt to each player, the first player
  25. "clockwise" from the dealer must either make an opening bet, or fold (drop
  26. out of the game).  Once the opening bet has been made, the other players in
  27. the game may either Call (put an equal amount of money in the pot), Raise
  28. (increase the bet amount), or Fold (drop out of the game) - this is referred
  29. to as the 'Betting' stage in the game.

  31.         After all the bets have been made, and everyone has placed an equal
  32. amount of money into the pot, the game moves on to the 'Discard' stage.  In
  33. this stage, each player (once again starting "clockwise" from the dealer) is
  34. allowed to discard up to 3 cards, for each card discarded, a new one is drawn
  35. from the deck, this is done to try and improve the player's hand.

  37.         After the 'Discard' stage, the game goes into yet another 'Betting'
  38. stage, where the pot may once again be raised (of course, the pot can only be
  39. raised to the Table Limit, after which, no more bets will be allowed until the
  40. next hand).  Once this second 'Betting' stage is over, a winner is declared,
  41. and the pot of credits goes to that player.  In the very rare case of a tie,
  42. the credits are divided equally between the players that tied.

  44.         As you should have already guessed, your goal in the game is to get
  45. the highest ranking hand of cards, there are 10 standard ranks, in order they
  46. are:
  47.  
  48.         Royal Flush     - The five highest cards (Ten thru Ace) in one suit
  49.         Straight Flush  - Five cards of the same suit in numerical order
  50.         Four of a Kind  - Four cards of equal face value
  51.         Full House      - A three of a kind and a pair
  52.         Flush           - Five cards of the same suit, not in numerical order
  53.         Straight        - Five cards in numerical order but different suits
  54.         Three of a Kind - Three cards of equal face value
  55.         Two Pairs       - Self explanitory (ie: 2 tens and 2 kings)
  56.         One Pair        - Two cards of equal face value
  57.         High Card       - Simply the highest card in the hand
  58.  
  59.         A little extra help here - a 'suit' is the type of card, for example
  60. Clubs, Hearts, Spades and Diamonds are the different available cards suits.
  61. Face cards in order from highest to lowest would be - Jack, Queen, King, Ace.
  62. In a straight, an Ace can either be the lowest card or the highest card
  63. (ie: A-2-3-4-5 and 10-J-Q-K-A are both considered a straight).  Of course
  64. the game will automatically tell you exactly what hand it is that you have, but
  65. this information is helpful when you are discarding cards in an attempt to get
  66. a better hand.
