ocr: GULL BREEDING COLONY During the breeding scason, many species ofs seabirds nest in large groups called colonies. This is because goodn nesting sites, such as cliff ledges by the sca, are rare. This isa breeding colony of kittiwakes, a type of gull. In a colony, each pair ofbirds vigorously defends its own nesting territory.
