ocr: SONG THRUSH NEST This painting by the English bird artist John Gould (1804-81) shows a song thrush at its nest. It is from his massive five-volume work The Birds ofGreat Britain (1862-73). The song thrush lays an average offour eggs,and one bird may raise WO or even three families each year. Once hatched, the parent bird drops the empty eggshells far from the nest.
