Transcription: Organisms that reproduce sexually make offspring that are like themselves in many ways, but also differ in many ways. How these similarities and differences are passed on from parent to offspring is called heredity. Thread-like structures called chromosomes are found in the nucleus, control center, of each cell. Cells have two sets of chromosomes, except for sex cells, which have only one set. Each chromosome consists of many genes, like beads on a neck genes hold the information that controls an organism's characteristics. These are passed from parent to offspring.
