Shrewlike mammals, crocodiles, tortoises, frogs, and lizards appeared. Pterosaurs (flying reptiles) soared through the air. The sea was inhabited by mollusks (soft-bodied animals without a backbone), corals, sea lilies, fish, and big marine reptiles.
