Herrera stumbled upon its fossilized bones in the San Juan desert region of central Argentina in 1959. He showed his find to the famous paleontologist, Osvaldo Reig (b. 1929), who collected leg bones, hipbones, and spinal bones from the site. In 1963, the dinosaur was MOUNTED SKELETON named Herrerasaurus in honor of This skeleton of Herrerasaurus was mounted in the Museum of its finder. the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman, Argentina, in 1965.
