OCR: WHITE DWARF A WHITE DWARF is the remaining core of a star of relatively low mass whose outer layers have drifted away near the end of its life. Nuclear fusion has, by this time, ceased in the star's core, which has collapsed in on itself and become extremely dense. A white dwarf gradually fades until it becomes a cold, lifeless, black dwarf.
