OCR: SUNSPOT A SUNSPOT IS a relatively cool region on the Sun's visible surface, or photosphere. The cooling effect is produced by a concentration of the Sun's magnetic field in the area of a spot. Although sunspots would shine brightly if isolated, they appear dark because their surroundings are hotter and brighter.
