OCR: SUPERGIANT STAR ................... . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . A SUPERGIANT STAR is a huge star with a mass more than ten times the mass of the Sun. The nuclear reactions at the core of a supergiant go through several stages during which the outer layers expand until the star has a radius of about 1,000 times that of the Sun. Eventually the star's gravity causes it to collapse and the star then explodes as a supernova.
