OCR: RETRO-ROCKET .............................................. A SPACECRAFT'S retro-rocket is a small rocket motor that is fired away from the direction of the craft's motion in order to reduce the craft's speed. A probe landing on a planet fires its retro-rockets in order to make a soft landing. Astronauts in orbit around the Earth may use the retro-rockets on their spacecraft to slow down before reentering the Earth's atmosphere.
