OCR: RADIATION ZONE ......................... .. ..... . ..... . .. . . . THE RADIATION ZONE of the Sun, or of any star, is a layer surrounding the star's core. Photons - packets of electromagnetic radiation - gradually move outward through this zone by a process in which photons are continually absorbed and reradiated by particles of the star's gases. The radiation zone extends outward until it meets the convection zone.
