OCR: QUASAR A QUASAR IS a distant, apparently starlike object that emits enormous amounts of energy (equivalent to over 100 giant galaxies). Quasars are thought to be objects at the center of distant galaxies (up to 10 billion light years away). It is believed that their source of energy is stars and gases falling toward immense black holes at their centers. Quasars were first detected in 1963.
