OCR: IRREGULAR GALAXY AN IRREGULAR GALAXY is one that, unlike a spiral or an elliptical galaxy, has no particular shape. The stars in an irregular galaxy, such as the Small Magellanic Cloud, are of widely differing ages and there are generally fewer stars in an irregular galaxy than in any other type. About 25 percent of known galaxies are irregular, including the smallest-known galaxy, GR-8.
