OCR: HELIOCENTRIC UNIVERSE THE HELIOCENTRIC UNIVERSE is a model of the Solar System in which the planets orbit the Sun. First proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus (1474-1543) in his work De revolutionibus orbium coelestium ("On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres"), the theory opposed the geocentric model where the Sun and the planets revolve around the Earth.
